I am attending a community college in Iowa right now and will get an Iowa CDL at the completion of the course. Right after that is done, I plan on establishing residency in Texas and transferring my CDL.
I have read online I can easilytransfer a "driver's license" but I can not find anything that says it is just the same for a CDL. Can anyone confirm, can I easily transfer an out-of-state CDL into the state of Texas without having to retest?

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety page (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/DriverL...ialLicense.htm)
concerning moves into Texas, as long as you hold a valid CDL license from another state, the written and driving examinations are waived, but you must pass a vision exam. What isn't stated clearly is whether the HAZMAT test is also waived. When I moved to PA, they required that the HAZMAT written test be passed in order to transfer that endorsement, but all other tests were waived. "Your mileage may vary."passport220 Thanks this. -
You will not be able to transfer your license until you have an address in Texas and can prove it. Not sure about Texas laws but here in Florida you cannot do it online if you have a CDL. You must go into the DMV. You shouldn't have to re-take the test though.

You will need finger prints in the system that are not more than 1 year old. Take a copy of the letter that was sent to you .
You will have to take the Haz-Mat test again.
Copy of Long Form from DOT physical.
Oh and pay their fees all over again. After all its all about the $$$$$passport220 Thanks this. -
I went through FFE's school and came to Texas from Michigan with a class B with tanker and hazmat. I had to take the combination vehicle test only, while others had to take 5 tests for class A. My tanker transferred but not the hazmat.
So to answer your question, as long as you have a Texas address (I didn't have to "prove" anything...), yes.passport220 Thanks this. -
Moving right along I see. Best wishes.

I think Stevens opened another school in Colorado because of the requirement in Texas. Who are you working for now?

No job yet, just finishing school. Recruiters are scheduled to start comming to our school in the next week or so. I finish school Dec. 20 and I think the upcoming holidays will screw up my working schedule until the beginning of next year. I have a physical address in Texas that I can use. I will apply online for voter registration and also have my bank send a statement to that address, so that will cover my two forms of documentation as proof of residency (domicile).
