Transfer from NY to TX

    Hello everyone!
    I just passed my CDL A driving test and have made an appointment with the New York DMV on August 11th to update my license to get a physical copy. I plan to move to Texas immediately after and have made an appointment with the Texas DMV on August 18th to change my normal license and CDL to Texas.
    My question is:
    1. Can I do both my normal license and CDL in one day or do I need to wait until I have a physical Texas license.
    2. Can I switch my CDL from NY to Texas if I don't have the physical license from NY yet? August 11th was the earliest appointment I could get in New York and in Texas most cities' appointments are backed up until December. Will they require I have the permanent plastic copy or will the temporary paper copy work?

    To question 2, it may depend how much info is on the temp license. Will it have your permanent D/L # already on it ? If so, that means your info is in the system, or, is it ? It may be in the pipeline only. You'll find out on Aug 18 th.

    Your old license # is the CDL #. The difference is that when you get your license back from DMV? It will have your endorsements as well as what rating of CDL you have.

    If you are moving to Texas. You will have to replace your license with in 6 months of having moved to any state with in the United States. Tho you may want to check with the Texas DMV if they will allow you a changeover or if you need to take any additional testing.

    The only thing that wouldn't transfer to Tx would be the Hazmat endorsement, if you have it. Otherwise you Just pay the money and get you picture taken.
