Hello all
I am moving from Ohio to illinois and will be transferring my cdl. I have doubles/triples. Tankers. And hazmat. I was curious if my fingerprint results from ohio would transfer over or not. I don't have the letter that I was approved. But I could probably get it from the DMV. Anyone ever do this? Specifically illinois?

Never "transferred" to another state....but the HazMat background is NATIONAL....it is not a "State" requirement, so it is in every DMV computer in the country. When transferring a License from one state to another, you need your hard copy (the one in your wallet) and maybe your Social Security card and Birth Certificate....and MAYBE proof of address in the new state (like an electric bill or something of that nature).

IL is the worst state to transfer to. You have to do everything from the beginning including the hazmat process and all test including the road test. Though it is a federal requirement the hazmat part is also a state endorsement and the background check has to be up to date at the time of endorsement issue even if you took it a month ago.

$86.50 background check
CDL $60
endorsements $5 each

Wow, that blows....I did not know that. HazMat was more of a pain (where I am) because I have to travel 85 miles on a week day to get it done (there is no other option) which means, I have to use a vacation or sick day if I wanna get paid...or take a day off without pay if I can afford to.
A lot of companies may reimburse you for the cost of the endorsement itself...but most are not gonna pay you to go do it (i.e.- we require you to have HazMat endorsement to work here...you don't get it, you don't have a job). -
Yeah. I knew I had to do all the testing again. But it's kind of dumb to have to do the background over again since it's in a national database. That's illinois for you though. I don't need it for my current job. So I probably won't get it. But it would have been nice to have.
