UPS is a very trans-friendly company. Probably the most trans-friendly company.
i'm trying to post a link where i read that , but it's on my employee website, so i'm not sure if non-employees can or are allowed to read it.

But tell me more about your situation.

The issue with GID or Gender Dysphoria is one of degrees, like all things psychological. Example: Say hypothetically I'm a woman in a mans body. I would, most likely, be dysphoric that I have to tote around this extra equipment. Knowing, tho, that I can take steps to alter my gender's primary sex characteristics (the equipment I've got) and even my secondary sex characteristics (facial features, extraneous hair, softening of the voice) - there's relief in that. So, again hypothetically, I move thru the process of gender reassignment and as I get closer to what I feel like I am, I consequently become less dysphoric. This in turn lessens the manifestation of any psychosis as would be ascribed to my mental health by the DSM-5 - thru the act of getting closer to what I wanted to be, I've weakened the loathing and pain associated to my own existence. I am, in fact, approaching euphoria.

    Self education is fairly inexpensive.
    Empathy is free.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual 5 (DSM-V) was published in 2013, it delineates what criteria are applicable for clinical diagnosis of abnormal psychologies, their possible pathology, typical onset and prognosis / treatment. Prior to this the DSM-IV-TR (4th version, 3rd revision) was published in 2000.... Things are very slow to change in the mental health world. It's very primitive... we still use electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) to this day... people are chemically lobotomized with drugs.... and we're not far removed from cold water dunk tanks.
Understanding why people are the way they are is such a convoluted thing. There are so many factors to account for: embryonic environment, toxins, chemicals in your food, trauma, experience, ones own proclivities toward something, culture & ethnic background... Considering all the factors it's small wonder the 'science' (it's really a humanitarian line of study) moves at a glacial pace.

One other note: If any of us, for emphasis: ANY OF US - were to go to a clinician we could walk out with a diagnosis of some kind.... and probably the drugs to 'fix' it as well. I'm sure I'd be rated 8/10's cold-blooded, emotionally reclusive, sociopath despite the fact that human suffering saddens me greatly. The greatest paradox: People.

Do your job well, ignore the haters, be you. Customers can be total PITA, but the ones that are generally aren't singeling you out, they just hate life. I switched from reefer to flatbed, now my customers are happy as can be to see me rolling in, provided I don't do something stupid. Wanna make a wrecker guy happy, perfectly back under a suspended trailer in one shot.

In your job be professional, with your company and customers be a professional, the rest don't matter.

I have 3 friends that are either trans or crossdress. They aren't in this industry, but they carry themselves with thier head held high and though they get the occasional sideways glance, most people don't give it a 2nd thought. Cause in your head you may be worried everyone knows, but to many people they aren't even thinking about it. You may run into a few that want to press the issue, just ignore them. Be you, it's much better that way.

I used to smoke a lot of weed. That's a familiar feeling and a good parallel to the topic. Lol.

I might. I certainly know that when a a person makes a rude remark at someone, without being treated improperly. It's generally because they see something in the person that they don't like about themselves. And, staring at someone as an adult is not studying, it's just plain rude. Children stare out of curiousity and depending on their upbringing. May make either an innocent remark or a rude one.

Homosexuality used to be classed as a mental disorder. It's just a matter of time before they take that out of the DSM.

I have a strong disagreement with this. Homophobic and Trans-phobia would refer to someone fear of people. Many people do not like gays, lesbians trans-gendered folks. But that has nothing to do with fear. It has to do with our culture. I was raise to love all people. I was raised to think of myself as the single least important person on the planet. Jesus first others in between and yourself last. JOY. Now there are many who believe that living a lifestyle such as you are wishing is a sin. I am not God so you don't answer to me. If God created you that way, he knew what he was doing so I have no problem with it. I will talk to you and have talked to a trucker living as a woman but still a man. It was an interesting conversation as it was about airplanes and not sexual at all.

I have a strong dislike for anyone calling people names. Calling someone Homophobic is insult. Just because it seems to Politically correct to do so, doesn't make it so. There are good people out there that have been raised that somethings are sins. They have the right to express those beliefs. Some worry about the effects of "coming out" on the future generations. While those worries maybe baseless, people have the right to try to do whats best for their children. Attitudes are changing, but that doesn't make them correct.

If I had a trucking business again ( not until the Packers win another championship, which could be a while, GO PACK!) the only thing I'd be concerned with is, if you could do the job. If your lifestyle conflicted with your job duties, then there's a problem. To show how attitudes have changed, when I started trucking in the 70's, I got lambasted for wearing tennis shoes in the truck. Wonder what those people would say about this.
