What is the purpose of a translucent roof on a trailer?

Yep, as noted.. clear roofs allow you to be able to see even while up to the docks.. most trailers are dark when backed up to dock and its a lot better to have light from the roof than being blinded half the time by a dock light.

Is that a special need for particular types of loads?
Is there any requirments for these instead of a normal roof?

They're lighter and it's nice to have light in the trailer. But I'd never personally own one. To much of a pita to repair and in a decent to pretty bad hale storm you can kiss that roof goodbye. And as murphy's law would have it that hale strom will hit right when you have a few 100K if electronics in your trailer.

most of them I worked with was when I was doing lots of LTL and P&D work.. you can find what your looking for in them and most of the P&D stuff happens in the daytime when the roof comes in handy. looking for labels and such in a dark trailer isnt a lot of fun.

We have a translucent roof and we are trading it out ASAP, We have repaired the roof three times (Outside seals) and forklifts sometimes wack the inside roof supports so we are forever having them fixed (Light Aluminum)
