Ok... So buddy goes on holidays for a week, myself and two other guys use his assigned truck while he's gone. I use it after one guy for most of the week, then another guy after me. The third guy writes up after a couple days on the truck "won't shift into 1st or 6th". WTF?! So now fingers are pointing at me and this other guy, someone blew the tranny... How does this happen? ? Forcing the shifter into places it doesn't want to go?? It only has ~40,000 mi on it! 9spd Eaton
I'm not a veteran, but I am also not retarded!
Transmission...destroyed in one week???

Its easy to blame the new guy........

He's prob just not double clutching properly. My trans has 800k on it and still works ok. Depending on how you stop, sometimes they won't go in first unless you let the clutch out a little.

1st and 6th,
or do you mean
2nd and 6th ? -
Not double clutching properly isnt gonna destroy the trans that soon? Itll take a while for that to happen.
-
Forcing it into gear will tear it up, but more likely in that little time it was defective from factory

Yeah I asked again, the guys said 1 & 6, can't get in them. Not L and 6, 1 and 6. 1 & 5 would have made more sense too, so I don't know what caused it. Crappy deal though for sure.

Looking at the power flow diagram of the:
FS(O)-6109
FS(O)-6209
FS(O)-6309
FS(O)-8209
FS(O)-8309
It appears that the 1st and 6th speed share the same fork and gear on the main shaft so it looks like a synchronizer gear or ring may be the issue. Not sure, been a long time since I've ripped one apart.Last edited: Aug 21, 2012
