don't get Terminated away from Home. I agree. Impossible to get hired? mmmmmm Seems I just got hired by a large Company after being terminated Nov 2000. I was fired cause I refuse to drive while under effects of Medication. In other wise I did not want to get a DUI.

Seen it hundreds of times. Back in my earlier days (1997), when I did have a Bad attitude at life, I came close being kicked out at Whites Truck Stop.. My Wife at the time did some fast talking and save us.

3 of the last 4 jobs I had the previous drivers was terminated, and they had to go and get the trucks.

So if you were terminated from a company instead of quitting then your saying that there is still hope. What companies offer that hope?

This is one of many reasons why I wouldn't be able to drive for one of the larger companies. I would have a tough time getting my book to jibe with their records. Hell, it's tough enough to get the fuel stops to match sometimes.

As far as responsibility for getting the driver home, while I think the company should, I don't know that they're bound to do so.

Most companies go on a case by case basis anyhow when they hire drivers. For instance if you decide on the second day of a company's 3 day orientation, that you dont like the place and go home--that company will put on your DAC that they terminated you. But in reality they didnt, you left.

Also some companies out there will terminate you if you have an accident(your fault or not)such as WalMart, so just because the company terminated you doesnt mean that you were terminated for something so bad that another company wont hire you.

It is not a good thing to be terminated, but it is not necessarily a bad thing either--most companies will want an explanation if you were terminated and then they will contact the company you were terminated from and then make their decision, based on whether they matched and then use their in-house criteria.

Biggest number 1 item that will get you "backballed" in this industry is lying! Period! NEVER, EVER, FOR ANY REASON, lie on a job application at any company. EVER! No matter how hard it will hurt you. EVER!
IF YOU LIE THEY WILL FIND OUT AND IT WILL FOLLOW YOU IN THIS INDUSTRY! I have never falsified an application anywhere, but I have seen good drivers put out of work for long periods of time due to the fact that they thought that something in their background didnt matter, and it did.

There are a lot of company's that pressure drivers to do a little more than they can do legally. Then when they need to " cut back " , suddenly it matters. I never fell for that trap. However, I was terminated from a company for being pulled over for a lane violation ( I wasn't in violation according to the signage). I reported it being as a DOT report was isssued, but was not ticketed. I got fired over nothing. Real reason was, I lived out of route for the delivery I was on. On Sunday when I came out, I often had to deadhead over 300 miles to my first load. That would have been a reasonable reason for letting me go in order to cut costs, but to fire me for being pulled over and putting that on my DAC ??? I have a clean MVR and DAC other than that company saying they terminated me. Very difficult to explain that to company's you apply to. To boot, I have a perfect delivery record over 5 years of driving. I was not the only one to get the boot from that company for trumped up and completely fabricated reasons. When you apply for unemployment they report it such that you cannot collect unemployment by using terminology specific to that states law. The dept of labor doesn't even ask for concrete proof as they will say you were in violation of internal policy's not reportable to the DMV or DAC ..... Be aware of that trick. Always been better to be fired vs. quitting, but that is how they get rid of drivers who can't be discouraged to leave . It's really hard to be honest in this business. To use an old cliche'. ###### if you do, ###### if you don't.

the real picture is and will always be .30cpm, the 3rd most dangerous job is truck driver. These companies know ur their donkeys, and as long as there r truck driving schools and the recruiter can say .30cpm, know driver has job security. Realy
when r company drivers going to say union

    Well . . . . .
If you in fact have 12 years under your belt you would have known to "Top Off" and Roll to the Home 20 before they shut the Fuel card down.
    Believe me I know all the variables here and . . . . . :biggrin_25526:

I can see why so many company trucks get damaged in truckstops, By angry former drivers. Some cut airbags at night. Big $$$ to fix.
