After unions quit screwing the American worker by driving jobs overseas with outrageous salary and wage demands in weakening econmies. Or didn't we learn anything from UAW?

Yep, there is always a credit card with enough on it for the plane ride home in my wallet that is used for that purpose only, as I don't do Greyhound very well! It's like being stuck in a team that the co driver doesn't know what soap is for!

I also don't keep a lot of "stuff' in the truck either! If it doesn't fit into a very large nylon bag and weighs in at 49.9 pounds for the airlines weight limit, it can be left behind! It's not that important for me to sit and cry over as I drive away looking at it sitting in the middle of whoevers yard!

That bag and your carry on is all you need in that truck (for a man) Now women are a different story! What with having to wear 2 and 3 shirts to make that fashion statement and changing clothes everyday they'll be stuck with the charges for those extra bags!

And what about that dog, or 2 or 3? (You've seen it as well as I have!) They must feel so confident and secure in the knowledge that they wont be fired or if so they will be brought back to the yard or home.

They already did. When I started driving there were loads of union companies. ICX, Red Ball, Merchants, McLean, and hundreds of others. They weren't flexible in hard times or lean and they lost control of their unions to the bosses. Go to a meeting and there might be 10 guys there out of a local of 200 or more. Plus no balls any more. Too worried about their bass boats, new pickups and such to ever go on and maintain a real strike. So most are now gone. There are a few companies left like Roadway/Yellow, UPS but for the most part they are toast.

I do change the undies and socks, but the shirt, unless I had to do something that got me sweaty, no. I do shower every other day and is more than enough! Those washers and driers have gotten way to expensive and that hard water really will fade your shirts, not to mention not clean them to well either!

True. TA fired him for violating HOS regs? I recall TA giving me a combined 880 mile dispatch(nonstop) in a 64mph truck. Hmmm.... :biggrin_25526:

We had QC back then, but they apparently just didn't care as long as I was running my nards off and making them ten million dollars a month. :biggrin_25523:

Let's not forget that every receipt that has a number on it can be tracked through the company mainframes as they all have a time attached somewhere in computer land! Yes even that fuel receipt that you paid cash for and that scale ticket. I was in the habit of keeping the top Cat scale ticket for my records as it had a time stamped on it but the copy had a black box where the time was BUT when DOT did an audit of the company I was driving for the auditor used his laptop and brought up CAT's web page and as the boss said, he clicked on something and the ticket came up and thankfully I had logged it to within 30 minutes as the time was right there with the weights and station! That trick might pass muster with the guys at the scales but not an audit so trying to fudge with dropping trips off logs or making a dispatcher happy go ahead but after 32 years I've learned my lesson the past 5 years since that lesson, because if I have any paper on a run, paper being anything I paid money for then I WILL log it within an hour! SCREW the dispatcher!

They tell you that crap just to get you to knuckle under BUT if you get fired, a lawyer and a copy of the qcomm messages or whoever the company uses in sat communications will get said dispatcher in very deep hot water not to mention the owners! Let them know that's what you will do when you are threatened. Now those smaller companies who use cell phones try to record the message and then copy it to your laptop as it is THEIR cell more than likely and if they get their cell back there goes your proof!

Now whats so funny about that part about the lawyer is a friend of mine actually told his dispatcher that and the dumb arsed dispatcher started to send a lot of blank messages to "erase" the threatening email she has sent him and he sent her one back telling her that ALL messages sent were stored at Qualcomm not in the truck! She had to be blond with her hair died black for artificial intelligence!

Remember to CYA n these times of slow job offers!

PS: Oh trying to find mom and pop fuel stops to get a "hand written" receipt is next to impossiable unless you have 500 gallon tanks and can drive way out of route to falsify that log!
