Transport America fired my husband 500 miles from home too. He was ordered to go to the Kansas City Mo terminal. While there they told him he was done, move your #### out of the truck. They wouldnt let him get a load to Grove City Ohio. I checked with rental cars but they dont do one way rentals anymore. They have to be returned to the location that they were rented from. So, for $200 he got a budget truck. Took $200 in gas getting home. He couldnt take a bus because he had all his stuff with him (fridge, microwave, bedding, clothing, tv, etc). They fired for no reason. He has it on their yearly letterhead that he had 100% ontime deliveries, no accidents, no log violations, no missing paperwork, etc. Unemployment at first turned us down because Transport America said he had "unsatisfactory work performance" but when I presented the evidence that it was crap the unemployment was allowed. It cost him $400 to get home and they put it on his dac that he was fired so its impossible to get another driving job after you have been fired. Hes been driving for 28 years.

Fired for no reason? I know your husband isn't Paul Harvey but it sounds like he needs to tell you the "the rest of the story". I would bet a years pay that there is more to the story then he is telling you.

Both Avis & Hertz do one way rentals, a bit expensive, but can be done. I rent one way about once a month recovering trucks.

I am not really takin sides, since I don't have all the facts, One side of the story doesn't tell it all.
Usually a company has it reasons, even the conspiracy theorists have the ole fired in order to hire new lower pay drivers.
Have to put yourself in the company shoes, if you are going to fire somebody, if they are a liability, to the company or the general public, are you going to take a chance? or get driver to nearest safe place secure your equipment.
Do I think they should get the driver to the place he was hired or nearest terminal , Yes they should.
But are there times that is not possible, or cost effective, I'm sure many times it is.
Kinda of a slippery slope sometimes.

I was terminated in indianapolis and i live in Pittsburgh. What made me mad was that they let drive past our terminal near columbus and they didnt just have me stop there. I couldnt rent a car because im under age and I would have to pay alot of fees but my mom ended up driving to pick me up.

That is the biggest BS I have ever heard, you are old enough to drive a truck but "underage" to rent a car? What is wrong with these car rental companies?

I know. Just about all the places said since im under 25 I needed an adult who is 25 or older to co sign and pay extra fees and I could only get certain cars like the standard and I couldnt get any higher than that.
