On Monday I'm going to be meeting with a guy at Transportation Center For Excellence in Eagan, MN. They say that they can supposedly get funding through student loans and grants.

If anyone has any experience with them I would be very interested in hearing what you think.

    Thanks!

I talked to them a while back. They told me they had financing available through government grants, made it sound like the whole program could be paid for, asked me to fill out and fax them some forms. They were slow to get back to me so I called them. Turns out their program can be "partially" funded by a federal student Pell grant but only up to a max. of $1k. When I pressed her as to how much their program would cost me her answer was $4900 after the 1k grant. I then asked her why I should go with them when Heavy Metal Trucking has basically the same program for $3900, sometimes down to $2900 if they have an open seat right before the class starts...she actually hung up on me. IMO they are a scam.

I went in and talked to them, and was given the same story. I actually wouldn't have minded financing the course, but they charge $4995 for a course that Heavy Metal Trucking charges $3000-$3500 for.

I didn't bring up Heavy Metal Trucking, but I did ask why I should pay them $4995 when I could go to a company school for about $3000. Once he figured out that I had done my homework, he acted like he knew the jig was up. He tried a couple of arguments, but they were weak ones.

For me, I'm just going to try and go to a company that offers training. My stuff is already in storage, so I can just leave it there and have very few bills. I'll just put a few hundred away in savings each month, and if I end up quitting after 6 months, I'll just pay the school off and be done with it.

I spoke to heavy metal as well, if their school is 3499 as was told to me, he added that the finance charge was 1200, which brings the total up to 4699. Plus he said you need 50% down which =2350 = garbage.
Not sure what to do either, going to talk to Tcfe . If you get student loan, much easier to pay off. But no doubt very spendy!
