Okay let say I live in TX and I bought a truck in..... oh lets say WI. Now I don't have authority and I'm not leased on anywhere. I don't want to put the truck on the road right away I want to get it to TX and do some work on it before I put it on the road so I don't want to register it right away and have it costing me money while it's sitting.
So given that info, What do I need to do to be able to drive that truck from WI to TX?

If you are purchasing the vehicle from a dealer, they should provide you with a temp tag from the state of purchase.

If from an individual, I would think you would need one from your home state. But then, why not get the permanent registration.

Since you would be bringing the truck back non commercially, I would not think you would need permits. I would run a log book though and have correct insurance.

You could note on the side that it is not for hire.

Once it is registered and taged you have to start paying heavy highway use tax

Heavy highway use tax is not due until the truck hits 5,000 miles unless used for agricultural at 7500 miles.

I know you are right but it's one more thing to have to file when you don't need to. I see enough filings in my future!! :biggrin_25510:

I'm half tempted to reactivate our authority, I must be a glutan for punishment

A quick sharp hammer blow to the head may help!
