Okay let say I live in TX and I bought a truck in..... oh lets say WI. Now I don't have authority and I'm not leased on anywhere. I don't want to put the truck on the road right away I want to get it to TX and do some work on it before I put it on the road so I don't want to register it right away and have it costing me money while it's sitting.
So given that info, What do I need to do to be able to drive that truck from WI to TX?
transporting a new truck

get a temp tag and duct tape a sign on the door,
"note for hire" -
temp tag from TX or from WI?
any need for permits or does the not for hire take care of that? -
If you are purchasing the vehicle from a dealer, they should provide you with a temp tag from the state of purchase.
If from an individual, I would think you would need one from your home state. But then, why not get the permanent registration. -
You could note on the side that it is not for hire. -

Heavy highway use tax is not due until the truck hits 5,000 miles unless used for agricultural at 7500 miles. -
I know you are right but it's one more thing to have to file when you don't need to. I see enough filings in my future!!
I'm half tempted to reactivate our authority, I must be a glutan for punishment -
Darn, I have no answer to that problem. -
