My best figures show I'm burning approx $700 a month in comfort idling right now. Soon that will go down during the spring, but if you figure that I do that even half a yr the APU is paid for in 2 yrs. More like 2/3s of the yr i'll spend that much. This was figured using a fuel price of $3.259. The area I'm running in that is the low average. Since sunday it looks like the price is on the rise.

there was a tirpac on ebay a few weeks back that the guy took off his truck after two years. It was the complete system PLUS a second brand new motor and it sold really cheap. Like under $2k if I remember

here's a idea i have had, some of u may think that it's to hill billyish but lets see what ya'll think of it.

how about a generator back of the tractor or secured to the back of the landing gear and run a cord to a small window unit A/C ?

the a/c i am thinking of could be stored below the bunk!

you could run an rv type heat ac roof unit. Problem is choosing the right generator. Most those type generators are gas and even if you find a diesel one they run flat out all the time so they are not all that fuel efficient. And they are LOUD but that could be worked on.

What if you got stuck in El Paso in August? :biggrin_2559:

Still haven't heard from my banker. One place I tried turned me down. It was for the best. They were going to really poke me on interest. I know I'm credit challenged, but not for 26%+ :biggrin_25513:

In the three yr loan they were going to hit me about $3500 interest. If they would have taken me I would have tried really hard to pay it off in a yr.

    Medicineman,

You seem to be like my father. He always will tinker with stuff till it gets right up to his specs.

Re Gen: Some can be a pain and some are not. I used to run one on a 35ft cruiser based on the East coast and it did not bother anyone, but this was an enclosed 5KW Kohler gas with a sound shield in an engine room.

Good luck and knowing how good of a hands person you are, it can only be a matter of time before a solution comes up.
