I was wondering if I could get a bit of advice. How do you get contracted to haul material such as dirt and rock? There is alot of road construction going on here in san diego ca. and I see alot of independent trucks running fill dirt to these projects.another question would be 2 or 3 axle tractor to haul with,I see dual belly dumps being pulled with cabover trucks as well as single rear dump style trailers. thanks in advance for any info that could be shared.
transporting dirt rock etc...

Most of them are company trucks or O/O's working for the quarry or material supplier.
Sometimes if the construction co's fleet isn't enough to get the job done, they'll contact the quarry or even a contract carrier for more loads. -
Go talk to those drivers you "see" hauling dirt. They won't bite you. Catch them when they're fueling or waiting to load or unload.

In Ca single belly dumps can be 3 axles , double belly dumps 2 axle they have to meet Caltrans Length - king pin / rearaxle length Reg's which you can find on the Caltrans web. I am also looking at this area, seems its very slow in LA area, though SF area looks busy, maybe SD is worth looking into. By the way I have come across a End dump training course
in WA which I will be attending soon.
