Has anyone here taken an over sized load into New York city over the George Washington Bridge through the city to the island? How does the process work?

Have fun. How big is it?
PLease post in the flat bed section and there are a few drivers that know the drill.
I belive you can not cross untill midnight and if it is big you will need escorts.
There are some that all they do is the city. Pay their fees and it will be to your benefit..MackDaddyMark and DexIII Thank this. -
I have taken an oversized load to the island over the GW. It is a pain. By the time I paid the escort, permits and tolls, I believe that it cost about $500 for just 35 miles.
DexIII Thanks this. -
You can not go in till night time . Might be better to run up 287 and come in from the north on 95. You will need a city permit in and out and it will dictate what hours you can run. Last time i went in i was 9'10 wide, had to go in between the hours of 10pm and 5 am and could not return untill after 7pm. It can be a pain in the butt, but very profitable.

Don't believe you can cross any bridges until 10pm,and you need a night time permit to drive at night on Long island which requires front and rear escorts. You'll need separate NYC and NYS permits. NYC requires an escort with any O.D. permit.
I can't confirm bringing O.D. onto Long Island but, I do know the basics.
As far as bringing O.D. off the Island, here's the drill. Drive during the day (to avoid the extra "night" permit and escorts), can't use 495, take 25. Get to the city line and wait till 10pm, escort will take you through city and leave you at GWB where, your supposed to wait till sunrise to cross into NJ. It's a pain but, there are ways around it, you need to be from here to know how because you can't make any mistakes.
If you want you can call Maureen from NY Truck Escorts for permits, escorts and info. That's who I use. -
Thank you all for the info. Is is true that you must contact a survey company to do an assessment of your route to Long Island but must first request a permit and then be told you need a survey? This all takes a couple of days. You then go to the toll booth and wait until midnight and then they send you over. I don't know about pilot cars yet I'm sure the permit will tell me that.
