How to drive a Detroit........First thing in the morning open the drivers door and insert your hand. Slam the door on your hand. That way you will be pissed off the rest of the day and ready to gouge on the throttle.

Some of the old rattletrap 2nd and 3rd class buses in Mexico, I guess to save on maintenance costs, ran those old Detroit 318's and 6V92's with straight pipes, so when they took off from the bus terminal at full throttle, you knew it!

Factoid, the Rubber Duck's truck's engine sound in the movie "Convoy" was not a Mack, it was a Detroit. The movie makers felt that the sound of a Detroit 2 stroke sounded more trucklike than the Mack engine it was actually equipped with, so the sound of the Detroit engine was dubbed into the movie.

I'm on the bus in 2 hours. I'll get there early, get a window seat in the middle, and stick in the ear and nose plugs. Might even blindfold myself. I'll be fine. I just want to get this show on the road and become a trucker. Prolly look like this when I get there. View attachment 31783

Two long days and nights on the bus, whether a middle seat or the front it'll be uncomfortable.Better bring a pillow.Hopefully the bus won't be full the entire 2 days then you can have both seats to yourself.Or maybe you'll have nice company you'll be sitting next to.I met a guy from Washington one time on the bus and we kept in contact for a good yr.

If you want to sit in the back row, or near it, I would suggest getting a small can of ozium.

It is an air sanitizer. It's used by hospitals, it doesn't just cover up the smelly with lemon scent. After a few minutes the scent of the ozium is completely gone.

They sell it at the truck stops, or anywhere that has an automotive section like walmart etc...

I'd suggest you take whatever drugs they used to give to Mr. T to get him on the plane. Smelling salts in Montana should work as well.

Greyhound sucks! It seems that everyone else on the bus is able to sleep while the bus is in motion but me. In fact last time I had some guy resting his head in the crick of my arm at my elbow while he spread out across the aisle and snoozed. I could hardly sleep while the truck was moving while in training and I sure can't sleep sitting up on a bus. If you can, get on the bus first and book it to the very very back seats!

If you get an express bus (only goes from one major city to another major city) then you'll have tons of leg room and WiFi and electrical outlets. Many of the newer buses just have electrical outlets which is nice to charge your phone and laptop on. My guess is you'll ride Greyhound up to a certain point and then ride an affiliate company bus to your actual destination but I could be wrong. Crowded buses are thee worst. If you get claustrophobic, sit on the aisle seat in a crowded bus.

Your bus will stop every couple hours for smoke breaks and food breaks. The driver will usually do a count to make sure noone gets left behind but really it's up to you to be responsible for yourself and get your hide back on that bus before it leaves. They usually stop at truck stops but sometimes a rest area just for a bathroom break. You can use the bus bathroom but there will be no paper towels, no running water, no hand sanitizer, and you'll want to plan going while the bus is going down a straight stretch of road because balancing while going through a curve, especially one you're not expecting, takes balance and coordination especially if you're mid-stream.

p.s. all the boring people sit up front. the fun people sit in the back!
I still have a video on my phone of the weird lady sitting near the back. She never said anything but all of a sudden she'd start punching the air, like 3-4 times and then she'd slouch over in her seat. A minute later, she'd punch the air a few more times then adjust her blanket and slouch back over. Another minute later..punching the air again. It was weird! I was worried, concerned and intrigued all at the same time.
