I need to know that trick about the wire in the box to start the APU too. Please can you explain, thanks!

Reset first:
1) Ignition key off, bunk controller off
2) Push and hold APU regen button on dash for two seconds
3) Look under the bunk for the control box and find the little reset button, usually on the top left side and push it
4) Bunk controller onbonous Thanks this. -
If you need to run it manually, close all AC vents, set to 50 degrees, fan on low and the APU will run all day.

Thanks Original Bigfoot! I will try it out.

Heres how to put a switch on the SEN wire to make the tripac come on and run as long as you want. Open the main control box, probably under bunk or in your side box where mine is. Its the black box with the reset button on the outside. Find the wire marked SEN( think its white and has SEN marked on the board or wire). It senses the current voltage of the batteries and tells the apu when to turn on if your apu is set to battery monitor mode. Undo the screw that holds the wire in and extend the wire to somewhere in your bunk with a switch on it. The wire has to go back to the board where you unhooked it, just need the switch somewhere in between..When this connection is broken the apu will start and run until you flip the switch back. Apu may run for a bit after you flip the switch to complete circuit. Google `tripac diagnostic manual` (pdf file)and you can see the schematic of the control board. Id suggest unhooking the power to the apu before you open the control box so if you drop the screw you dont short anything out. I didnt do this but i was being super careful. Good luck
add---my tripac apu is from 2006 or 7 so i dont know about this working on ones that do regens, etcmhyn, pbrstreetgang and bonous Thank this. -
Thats exactly what I did to mine, put a switch in the SEN circuit. I also put another switch up on the dash next to the StandBy switch. With this switch I can fool the APU into thinking the ignition switch is off when the engine is running. That way if the truck alt or a/c fails the APU can be used going down the road. You may have to remove the wire going to the high temp shutdown because the truck runs much warmer than the apu.

I was told by a tripac tech(fwiw) that running the apu with the truck on(truck alternator inop) will kill the alternator on the apu. I dunno. You could of just gone into the programming of the APU and turned off the setting for EPS, this allows the apu to run with the ignition on.

Yeah i dunno, it was just a random tech that told me that. I would still probably try it depending on distance. New tripac alt is cheaper than a tow.
pbrstreetgang and bonous Thank this.
