I'm coming up on my 2year driving anniversary, 1.5 of it open-deck (flat/step), and I've been thinking of getting my own truck and trailer in the new year. I'd like to drive in the PNW almost exclusively, up into BC/AB/SK and maybe even further into NWT. My understanding is that I need a tridem trailer to do that if I want to haul anything nearing gross. But that said, I also don't want to restrict myself from running in states that restrict tridems.
My question for today is: do they make tridem trailers where the middle axle lifts, turning it into a spread so that I could drive it pretty much anywhere in the US and Canada? And if so, do many people do this? If not, how come? I don't recall ever seeing a tridem running as a spread, but I honestly hadn't thought about the option until the other day.

I run a 53 foot step and can lift either the back or center axle.
hup Thanks this. -
I have thought about this as well. I have a 3 axle RGN, the rear axle lifts, if I had the center axle to lift I would have a spread. The problem is the space between the spread would not be enough to give me the 20K per axle. If your going to do this pay attention to the axle spacing.

Man I just saw you were from missoula, I had to camp out there a couple days recently at the cummins dealer while they changed my front cover, good times.

Check the laws in BC, i was told by scalemaster you are not allowed a lift in BC but I had a spread so dont know if its same for tri axle.

Well I know that any tag axle in BC must be lifted. So lets say you have a tag axle on truck and trailer ( so they are both 4 axles) then you have to lift them at the border. I have never seen a tridem with a center lift and I do think the spacing would be off. I do know that anyone doing heavy haul (105,500 lbs gross) stays primarily in WA, OR, ID, MT, BC and there is a good market for it. I have a 53 ft step with a slider spread on the back that allows me to go anywhere as you have mentioned. I have to have axles together for Western side of Canada and California but Canada will let you have 37,400 on the trailer axles. I used to do heavy haul for Sherman Bros so I have experience with 3 axle 48 ft, 4 axle 53 ft and super B rain double trailers as well as 3 and 4 axle trucks.

are you talking about the isx motor by chance?
if so, what did the job cost. cuz i'm in dire need of a new cover apparently.
one of these days i'mn gonna figure out a way for some type of band aid. i c an't get anyone to pull the pulley off and just silicone the crap out of the front portion where the pan bolts to the front cover. i'm thinking of trying that gray masking tape if i can slide it up in there. -
Is it leaking oil?

I've seen some where cent lifts up so its spread. Not a flatbed but seen em.
