What type of mistakes cause you to burn through your 70 hrs? I just transfered from a regional fleet to national. My FM told me I "burned through my 70", now I'll have to work shorter days until I do my 34hr reset. I did not get many miles in the last 8 days to run down my hours, I wonder what I'm doing wrong? This is my first week of cross country driving, I didn't have to worry about my 70 before because I was home weekends.
trip planning/logging correctly...

Well I log 5-10 min pre and post trip and 5-10 min fueling, the rest is driving. So if you are logging your time at shippers and receiver's then you may be burning your 70. Sometimes I log 5 mins at shipper/receiver just to show something but that's about it.
Also to maximize your time sometimes you may need to sleep at a receiver or shipper to keep from burning your 14 for the day. What do you think you are doing to burn your 70?hal380 and Nightwind8830 Thank this. -
1. Do you do drop and hooks, or live loads and live unloads?
2. What is your company policy for minimum time to log for pre trip or post trip inspections?
3. Do you do any other activities that require On Duty time like unloading shipments yourself or having to monitor unloading?hal380 and Nightwind8830 Thank this. -
Most who do OTR and want to keep rolling without having to do a 34 hour reset at a some truckstop will only do a out 8 or 9 hours a day to stretch out their 70 and get back enough hours to keep rolling...
70 hours a week ÷ 5 days gives you a 14 hours a day
70 hours a week ÷ 6 days gives you an 11.5 hours a day
70 hours a week ÷ 7 days gives you a 10 hour day
So, if you want to keep rolling without a 34 hour reset you have to do shorter days..
Of course things are perfect in the trucking world.. you may need a 14 hour Monday to deliver on time... but then have a shorter Wednesday to make up for it...
You just need to keep tra k of the hours you are burning and how many hours you will gain..Nightwind8830, Kickstand-117, hal380 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Its kind of difficult but possible to mess up when the trips are already planned before you get them.. look at what they've planned and adjust.. arriving early can mean a wait until you get to know it

Scan one of your weekly or daily logs and post here.. be sure to block out not needed info.

I find I sometimes forget to go into sleeper berth from "on duty" when I'm waiting at the dock is what I think is causing this issue. The company likes to see 15 minutes for pre and post trip, I do mostly live loads/unloads at grocery distribution centers(reefer), on duty time is fueling and checking in at customer. Its 100% no touch freight I don't load/unload the trailer.

I'm using my phone and don't know how to edit my log picture before posting.

If you are on e-logs, then there should be a way to edit your logs before approving them.
For example, let's say you've been sitting at a shipper logged On Duty for an hour and realize your mistake. You only wanted 15 minutes On Duty to get into the dock. On Qualcomm you do the following:
1. Change duty status to Sleeper Berth or Off Duty. Now you can edit that block of On Duty time.
2. Select Approve Logs.
3. Select the block of On Duty time.
4. Select Edit.
5. Select the scissor icon. This will split the time block into two units. Amend the amount of time you want for the first unit of On Duty time to 15 minutes, then change the second block of time to Sleeper Berth or Off Duty.
If you have another e-log system it may have a different menu. However, you should be able to amend anything except Driving time up until you approve your logs.hal380 and Nightwind8830 Thank this. -
You can edit your logs.. as long as you havent approved them yet... so, if for example you forgot to log "off duty" or "sleeper birth" and stayed "On Duty" for the whole 3 1/2 hours you were at a shippers... you can edit your logs and getthose hours back...
Nightwind8830 Thanks this.
