I always cranked the shoes down until they were just barely touching, but not lifting. Since I was a company driver and all our 5th wheel saddles were at the same height, this would mean the lip of the trailer was just barely below the saddle height, and would always result in the load on the landing gear being removed when you slid under, negating any binding when raising them.

I'll take the pressure off the suspension.

I liked to slide under before raising to lock in. Keeps the grease on the plate instead of scraping it off.

No one told you to hook your air lines up first so you didn’t have to chase it?

With tankers that’s how you drop one especially a loaded one.

Then the air suspension leaks down, the trailer pivots around the landing gear, and the next guys cranking the trailer down because it’s to high now.
