I doubt it given where he was , most of these grain haulers around here are licensed for 86k or more but they can't run the interstates if over 80k .
The person here was literally within eyesight of his off load point but I can say whether he was on the interstate or not as they had him pulled over on a county road that we are legal to be on.
I have seen trucks in front of me at the bean oil plant on that road grossing well over 100k when they pulled on the scale there .
Around here as long as dot doesent see you on the interstate loaded they kinda leave us alone ...especially during harvest ....on the county roads dot is non existant and they would have to bring in the army to check every hopper bottom running around here .

Well apparently DOT was tailing that driver for some time so they’re probably wising up to the grain haulers avoiding the interstate.

They will nail one here and there but until someone gets killed it will be business as usual.

The problem I have with it, is if he’s like a lot of farmers and farm help, had he made it to the elevator and unloaded he would have promptly went back and got another load.

That problem is nothing new, and I dealt with it 20 years ago. Due to the lack of rules, and it's generally a crappy job to begin with, it's incredibly difficult to find help. Unless something changed, farmers often get the person on bobcat /manure duty, to drive the grain truck today. They know nothing about inspecting, or what to even look for. They obviously never checked the tires, or would have surely seen this. Farm help, as possibly demonstrated here, did what the boss told them to do, nothing more. This isn't something a steering wheel holder would notice. It was a sharp trooper, for sure.

Yes you are right , while waiting to dump I observe the drivers and equipment around me and it ranges from junk to dam near show quality , the drivers range from completely lost to seasoned veterans.
I also notice some drivers that appear to be no older than in theyre late teens .

    W923 and 201 Thank this.

That’s what cracks me up when people get all wound up about 18 year olds driving interstate. I think about the high school kids up home running a 13 axle set of grain doubles down the road and how people don’t even know who’s passing them on the highway.

They don’t have a choice but to avoid the interstate. Iowa is still sort of backwards in not allowing heavy trucks on the interstate. When I was hauling cattle and then later with my hopper I had to zig zag out of the state on 2 lanes once I was loaded because I didn’t feel like chancing a 10k or more overweight ticket. Best thing a state can do is sell a permit to allow over 80k on the interstate, but seeing how long it to NE to finally do that I don’t have much hope for IA and KS and CO to finally get on board.

I agree that it's retarded and I've always wondered why the cities and county's don't raise hell about all the heavy trucks being routed onto they're roads .
Some of the roads I run are oil and pea gravel and not built for trucks the weigh 86k legally or more ...and of course miles and miles of gravel travel .

Well it’s all fun and games until that “one time” hits.. And when that one time does hit,the driver is VSF!

Trooper might have been a rookie or a veteran but one thing is for certain,he had a good eye. And that Pete day cab looked relatively clean from the photo.
