I don't think anyone is jumping to conclusions, He openly admits to having the felony that disqualifies most applications. Regardles of being Guilty or Not. The record is what is his downfall. And he has no one to blame but himself...
Trouble getting a company to hire me. i would love some advice

1. That is a good question. They ought to have the courtesy to tell the man that his chance of finding a job with that kind of record is slim at best. But that doesn't put students in the seats, therefore not ringing the cash machine for them. I guess you could say their job is to get you a CDL, not to make sure it isn't worthless.
2. There was a clause pertaining to the crime he was guilty of under which he could receive only probation so parole requirements wouldn't be applicable in his particular case.
3. Insurance dictates to most companies what they can or cannot do. Now if you are a self insurer I suppose you can set any criteria you want.
4. This is the root of the problem. Poor judgement. Poor judgement to plead guilty to something you didn't do. Poor judgement in choice of friends. Track record of REPEATED poor judgement.
Think about this: Your judgement affects EVERY decision you make. You make a lot of calls in a truck that require good judgement from the driver. Who else is going to make those calls but him? There is no one with him to help him decide once he is out there on his own truck. You can only go on what he did in the past when the opportunity to make his own judgements came up. He has already shown you a track record of bad decision making.
To the ones talking about people getting off their high horses. Why don't you all get ON your high horses and start expecting more out of the people coming into YOUR industry?mje and Pilgrim007 Thank this. -
you definitely have some issues you need to deal with. -
this thread is really bringing out all the super truckers....

Thanks you answered a lot, some of which I didn't think of and should have.
In 1980 the Brits started using what is called a Tachograph and log books were obsolete, a carbon recording disc that fitted behind the speedometer, and had to be left in for 24 hours. So basically it recorded everything you did Sleep, loading/unloading breaks and speed you were traveling. In and Accident they could even break it down to what gear you were in. It was like having a cop and a boss sitting next to you watching everything you did. It was also used all over Western Europe and regardless of which countries you were in or traveled through that used the tachograph you had to carry 7 previous day records with you. and if any had an offense you were fined... Especially Germany and Austria where on the spot fines are common place. Countries like Yugo and beyond didn't have them or even know how to read them so when they pulled you over and said disc. You just dropped a pack of smokes on the floor and they were happy... Oh on Hours I believe it has since been increased but back then you were only allowed to drive 8 hours a day, with 2 x 12 1/2 hours spreads. Meaning you could still only drive 8 hours but your on duty time could spread over 12 1/2 to cover loading and unloading.. a benefit when doing multi drops.mje Thanks this. -

If you think about it,companies don't have much of a standard on who they hire because they know drivers don't have a high standard on them.So they take what they can get.Drivers and companies. All companies care about is someone to drive and make them money.Look how many chances drivers get in this industry with one company. With the low pay and every thing else wrong with this industry,I cant blame drivers for low motivation and poor work ethic.wstar2003 said: ↑If you consider holding someone to a high standard having an issue, then all I can say is "thanks".Click to expand...mje Thanks this.

This has really turned kind of interesting. I thought it was going to just be another bashing thread, but it is actually becoming quite thought provoking, as it moves along.
It's that KARMA rearing its ugly head!MisplacedJew said: ↑I'm sorry, but i just don't see the connection between a violent felon and the "privilege" of possessing a CDL-A.
Apparently, neither do our legislators.
Besides - at least in my case - 18 hour shifts in a ratty-assed KW is *not* a reward for good behavior... it's obviously a punishment for something in a past life.

OK, so does that mean they should spend the rest of their life in prison? If so, OK, I won't argue with you, but I do question how we will pay for it.Ridgeline said: ↑I believe that some acts of crimes no one should be allowed a chance to reenter society for their actions, and like the words 'paid their debt to society', rehabilitation is a fallacy and doesn't exist.Click to expand...
If you don't believe they should spend the rest of their life in prison, then what should happen to them. If they aren't in prison, and they can't reenter society, then what happens to them? Obviously, unless they kill themselves, they will have to remain in a life of crime, just to keep from starving to death. People are not going to remain homeless beggars all of their lives, unless they have severe mental problems. Perhaps you think we should support them with welfare dollars? Or should we just take them out and shoot them, as soon as they are release from prison?
Uh-oh. Sorry there bucko, you just lost all credibility as far as I'm concerned. You are now trying to assign blame to your "exfriend" and your "lawyer." Or as you said, your "laywer." Whichever, spelling isn't exactly the concern here. But I certainly will no longer attempt to make a case for you on the forum here.thteothers said: ↑A friend or now "ex-friend" was selling and hid them in my car without my knowledge, i got pulled over for a "routine traffic stop" while traveling through the south side and my car was searched and all these drugs were found (total shock for me). And when it came down to court it was their word against mine and laywer told me to just plead guilty and take the 410 probation to avoid jail time. ####### Scariest month of my life. As for my work work ethic (i rarely speak highly of my self) i have started 3 Companies and have employed over 30 people at more than $15/hour (a livable wage) each over the past 4 years. ive always had ALOT of respect for truckers and just want to go OTR and See the country while getting paid. Thanks for the support everyone, i will keep you all updated if i get a job or not.Click to expand...

If you would have came out and explained the situation instead of fragments you may have not gotten so many pages of responses. Looks to me like you want the attention and not the easy or pliable answer. Here's my suggestion, go into POLITICS.
mje Thanks this.
