Ummmm...have you tried downshifting? It tends to eliminate that "stalling" effect!:yes2557:

Khc- you either have a mechanical problem, or you are not paying attention to your situation. I have seen drivers come to a stop because they couldn't get the truck back into a gear but I don't think I have seen anyone who couldn't get the truck out of gear or at least push in the clutch to prevent the stall. I would think that you need to get your truck checked and if its all good then you should start practicing down shifts on slight inclines.
Everyone has something they need to work on and this may be your area.

The OP said "heavy". Im not sure what you mean by heavy but any time I am forced to start from a dead stop on a grade if im over 100K I ALWAYS start in low. Dont think more RPM will make it easier to get rolling. The faster the engine is turning is the faster the gears turn. I shift at as low of an RPM as I can in low range, as you probably have figured out it gets easier to shift in higher gears.

"Jake shifting" is when you leave the engine brake on and dont use the clutch (micro switch on the clutch pedal shuts the jake off). The jake slows the engine faster so you dont have to wait so long to get into the next gear.

BTW, most newer company trucks have a transmission/rear end saver built in to their engine brake. It wont come on for a second or so after you let off the throttle. They dont want rookies trying to shift fast.

Your first response I wasn't sure if you were being sarcastic or not...so no return response from me.

Now your second response is very unfriendly. I guess you assume I can read your mind on the situation you are encountering to make your truck stall out. If it is the fact that you are letting the RPM's diminish so much before downshifting...then you need to find someone to actually ride with you to see what you are doing wrong then teach or show you how to improve your technique.

If it is anything outside of not selecting the correct gear for speed/rpm ratio, then that truck needs mechanical attention.

I would be happy to help you with your issue, if the timing could be worked out.

I want to apologize otherhalftw I really was being rude on that one sorry. Its just been a long long week, im in training and thats not going well for me. Iv had a hard time picking up on the shifting and im very slow at driving. I do think today I figured out the shifting I was up shifting at 12 -and not 13 so that problem may be solved. But as with all rookies im sure another problem will present its self soon. Thank you all for the help.

What gear are you in when this happens, or what gears are you between when this happens? If you are having problems on the low side vs. the high side, my answer may be different as you have a splitter on the high side.
Are you missing a gear shift and have to come to a complete stop and start over?
