Steerable axles under trailer. Murphys law will still come into play.

I didn't start till the mid 90's but still to watch the decline in drivers, and I use that term loosely, has been staggering. As to the use of 57's, the ones I've seen in Cali were all hooked to day cab cabovers with a 4' kingpin. They run a few here in Alabama, mostly from what I've seen to the Coca Cola plant in Montgomery hauling bottles. Day cab with a 4' kp on trailer. Given the propensity for drivers to pull in between 2 trucks, that extra nose swing would be particularly problematic. Of course I feel that anything over 48' is a waste. Why haul more on or in a trailer for the same money.
Sorry for the tangent. Back to regular programming.

Back in the day a driver would take his son with him on a run and let the son drive on a straight road so dad could get a nap. Learn while doing.
Sometimes the son would drive around the yard and learn how to maneuver and back up.
Let's not forget on weekends both would work on and repair the truck.

Shippers say "why haul less in a trailer for the same money".
For the light-weight, high-cube shippers, I get it. They want all the cube they can get access to and that carriers will provide, but at some point, you have to stop. As long as they don't start allowing OTR sleeper tractors pull the 57's, okay. But imagine several 75 foot rigs parked in a truck stop full of 70 foot rigs. Somebody is going to be in the way.

My F150 has this. Didn't want it but I wanted the heated seats and remote start. What was so hard about backing up a trailer in the first place? This is just too much thinking and work for me.

Just getting rid of her was payment enough.

What a nut job. I usually do a really good job vetting tenants but that one slipped through.

The couple that's been there the last 3 years have never had an issue

So... what the hell was going on in 1979? I remember it always seemed to be party time and the winter was really bad.
