My axles are at 270 degrees right now. Front diff is so hot it burned my hand through a glove. Oil levels are topped off.

KB3MMX Thanks this.

If you're hearing valves chatter, your engine is probably ####ed. You're most likely hearing fuel knock.
270°F? Diff has some issues. Anything over 250°F is a cause for concern. The oil is pretty much cooked and the film strength is not good by that point.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Engine has been checked out by volvo. Overhead done. Cylinders boroscoped, compression test done. Blackstone labs oil analysis. Everything came back good. When the rears get hot like that I get a pretty bad vibration from the back and a slight hop from back there when pulling hard.

For better understanding of my previous post
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Sounds like the rears are shot too.. another pile of money into repairs that'll make you puke. Good grief. -
My idler gears are fine. When I say valve chatter I'm talking about that noise that the D13 makes. The bonecrusher noise. That is unique to this engine. as for my rear ends it's going to cost me $1,800 to rebuild both rear ends and get a new power divider. That's still cheaper than a truck payment.

While I'm getting the rebuild I'm going to do some instrumentation upgrade on the dash of my truck. I'm going to add axle temp sensors do both axles and going to install gauges in the dash.
