My mistake, I didn't read what the carrier was hauling, or the full article. It was an excavator. They were close to the permits but still over the limits. The article also says the owner of the truck admits he knew it was wrong. Also he admits that many other trucks are using that road with oversized loads with no permits at all on page two in the link. The fine was too big and should be reduced on appeal to around $10,000-5,000. The company should pay something, not the $30,000+, I do not agree with ruining a small companies profit margin for this. They cut a corner to save around $100 bucks and got caught, and should be punished. I have seen these large excavators used in strip minning broke down by removing the shovel and even tracks to reduce weight and size. I don't know if that one the guy was hauling could be broke down but I am just saying I have seen them broke down to make the permits issued.
