Heck, I've already thought an electric reverse gear an a remote controller would be a much better way to back.
I've seen such set ups on heavy equipment.
-
lol put a bunch of camera's and remote controls on swift trucks and when the driver gets to the dock they have to call dispatch and have a dedicated truck backer remotely dock all the trucks from there desk....lol
IluvCATS Thanks this. -
You're not to far off from what they think is going to happen.
OTR will become fully automated, local drivers will retrieve inbound units from a "city terminal" then drive to delivery. Once remote control becomes reliable enough (come on, they lecture us on breaking distances and they want to put signal strength and lag time on top of that?) we'll probably punch in in shifts like Raptor Pilots. A clipboard full of trucks to drive in and out of town in a 12 hour shift.
I'm thinking that might actually happen at the VERY end of my career, so hopefully I can still have a job in my 80's. (I should clarify, 30-40 years from now) the future is coming, but not at the pace some predict. -
