Truck driver accused of killing three people identified as Jashanpreet Singh

U-Turn idiot knew at least some basic English that’s already a proven fact. Got his license in WA and then transferred it to CA. California did it right by issuing a short term license that coincided with his work authorization. They were in no way obligated to test him for English.
Was the CDL school in WA obligated to train in English…that’s a big no. Did WA make him test out in English.. I don’t know the answer.

At the time of the accident English proficiency was the burden of the carrier. There wasn’t a standardized English test and the type of visa he was given to work was legally acceptable for driving trucks..

The pundits were yapping about closing the “loophole” that allowed him to drive. Specifically the type of visa that he had. Hence the reason they eliminated that type visa in the new emergency order. Loopholes are what idiots call laws that they don’t like.

I really don’t know how it works. My opinion is that they should be tested just like you and I would when we want to obtain a CDL. If they have a CDL from their country they should be tested in this country.. maybe they do, I really don’t know or bothered to look into it.

Food for thought, any guess why the Terrell, TX tragedy doesn’t get brought up anymore?

Remember that driving school in Memphis ran by Swift? Swift got “Hector” a CDL, put him in a truck and sent him up the road. Hector wiped out an entire family, got out of the truck, became Enrique, and ran. The only thing that happened was the school got shut down. This was…2008? Nothing changed.

How many years ago did that moron bypass the runaway ramps west of Denver? Public gets outraged, politicians make speeches, and in 2 weeks it’s all over and never thought of again. All this Singh kid has to do is lose 15 lbs, but his mustache off and change his last name to Patel and be in another truck by New Years.

 

Oh trust me, i am still bitter about that mass murderer having people pour out of the woodworks to DEFEND HIM. He should have gotten the max sentince. Not a slap on the wrist like he did. Sure 10 years sounds like a lot but imo he should have gotten the full 110. 10 for mass murder which him ADMITING HE DROVE INTO TRAFFIC SO HE WOULD NOT DIE after skipping ALL those offramps and claiming to not speak english when it got proven he could among MANY other lies....is nothing less then murder in my eyes. And frankly if it hadnt been televised as much as it was he likely WOULD have gotten off scott free.

But thats my point. No one cares and only now that we are seeing thos crap literally daily its so bad is anyone noticeing at all. And only then because its in their face constantly. Those of us who have been warning of this are still brushed off or told we are racists or bigiots or discriminateing or whatever. No these "people" simply dont give a #### and have no consiquinces. And the people we elect to take care of this seem to give no ####s either. Even now its all talk and retheroic. No actual action.

 

Probably going to get worse before it gets better.
The ones who know the gig is up are probably going to try pushing the limits, ignoring hos etc in a mad dash for cash.

Make as much as they can before they get booted.

Just something I’ve been weary about. Stay vigilant, keep an eye open for trucks coming across the median because they fell asleep.

 

You aint wrong. Best any of us can do is stay as safe as we can. Even if some days i feel like half these bloody drivers are pretending to play GTA where body count = high score.

 

perhaps it is because i strictly drive at night, but i feel like it has been like this for the last 5 years or so. i don't remember being on edge so much in the 2000s or even 2010s.

i watch every truck i see like a hawk. 1/3 on the road at night will exhibit rookie/distracted/careless behavior in any 1 of many, or multiple, forms. it's tiresome.

im triple placarded? that's ok. if i don't break cruise and slow down, this driver passing me will drift into my lane 5x, bounce over to the shoulder and ride the rumble strip a few times before hitting the brakes and immediately getting over in front of me the instant there is 1' of clearance. then they will drop speed and play the I MISSED SPEED MAINTENANCE DAY AT DRIVER TRAINING game for the next 10 miles.

every night. every week. it is a good exercise in patience, though. which i am slowly gaining.

 

Yup, sadly i drive in the daylight because rock bucket and during the daytime i average at least 2 near wrecks a day. People zooming past me on the right as the lane ends. Brake checks, cutting me off from the far left lane to take the exit. Near headons going around me in no passing zones because my 80k pound ### cant pull a grade at 75....in a 55. Tailgateing within inches if i try to do the speed limit god forbid in a construction zone.

Its constant and getting worse. Honestly i have a short list of goals then i think im done. Namely, pay off the lingering debt from my last rig, get a reefer and convert it to a mini single wide. Get a chunk of land and get sewage power and water installed. And get enough put aside for an emergency then i think ima tap out and find a local rural job as far away from people as i can.
