I'm sure there's jobs like that out there.......but they usually get changed back to hourly after the company starts thinking you're making too much money.
Other jobs that are very seasonal...like end dump and cement hauling for redi mix plants offer a weekly minimum in order to retain drivers through the lean times during the winter.
It seems to me that all the variation in the driving process gets pushed down to the driver. If youve been in the military your familiar with the saying S..t rolls down hill. Paying drivers by the mile incorporates all the inefficiency of transit and puts it on the drivers back, provided your run legal. With the Federal Government instituting EORBs, those who are not legal will be forced from the industry. So if Im a OTR driver why should my pay be penalized for lost time (miles driven) because of a DOT inspection, traffic accidents, congestion, weather, mechanical breakdowns, etc.? If my pay is going up and down each week because of circumstances beyond my control, I cant help but think that this is a cause for much dissatisfaction/driver turnover.
