It takes skill and knowledge to know how to clean correctly. I was a custodial engineer in high school. That job don't look too bad right now.

I've been a janator and a truck driver and I'll take truck driving over janator any day.

Being a janator sucked for me. First I had to deal with my actual boss who was the principal. She was a real ##### that thought she ruled the world. Then I had to deal with 25 teachers that THOUGHT they were my boss. Then I had to deal with all the kids, some of which thought they were my boss too.

I guess it all depends on what your willing to put up with, but I'd much rather have my current job of driving a dump truck than being a custodian. The freedom of being a truck driver and not having a boss in your ear constantly wanting this and wanting that is much better suited for me.

I also get home every night driving a dump which is nice.

Night shift=no stress;day shift time flies if they keep calling you.Like any job the people you work with make all the difference;if the boss is an ##### everybody is miserable.I actually considered leaving my gig for a driving job, but after reading about all the BS you guys put up with, decided to stay in the school system.Plus health wise I think I'm better off as I'm walking a few miles every week;I get to walk off my stress.

i'll tell you what, when i am on the web, i frequently check the various school districts in my area, even the state for a state job, and i really do look for custodial work. they get paid city (or town) wages, many times unionized, benefits, and so on and so forth. hey, it ain't a glamorous job for sure, but no headaches like the day to day non-sense and ever present rules, regulations and changes in the trucking world.

...You must have been in an elementary school, one man dayshift? That can suck especially if you have to set up and take down the lunchroom tables in the gym.You have just enough time to get it done before gym class comes back, but if they call you for an emergency(puke job, explosion over the toilet seat etc.),you have to ask the gym teacher to help you get done before 1 o'clock.I've worked both shifts and prefer nights, most nights I finish early then watch TV till midnight.I've been doing this for 33 years, have figured out a good routine, get everything done and then some ,no complaints the next day.I'm home in bed everyday by 1 AM,great benefits,4 weeks vacation,17 paid holidays,12 paid sick days per year;decent pay 56G,whats not to like?
...I could make more money driving a truck, but I think I would have a lot more stress and less healthy lifestyle. All 3 of my sons want my job,but I'm not old enough to retire yet at 56,if I can make it to 62,I will take an early Social Security retirement and my NJ pension , then be set for life.

right now my friend, you got it good.....i wish I HAD that.........

well in a way i do, as i am an instructor (currently on medical leave by the way), but my job has its stress points as well, like when a student see's something like another vehicle pulled off to the shoulder and he HAS to move left, but goes WAY LEFT into the oncoming traffic....

think my heart ain't pounding then.......??

but over all my job is NOT as stressful as the daily routine of any driver, but ah yes.....custodial work, PAYS well if you're at the right place....

    OK QUESTION!

Looks like many of you were janitor's before truck driver's. So now I wonder if that is a trend? and if it is, then why is it so #### difficult to get a truck driver to clean up his own mess?

Come on, if you were a janitor at one point in time.... You should be able too wipe your feces off the toilet seat when your done unloading!
