Why do I see more and more truck drivers leasing taxicabs? My old co-driver is doing just that! He says its just like leasing a truck...he pays 500 a week and gets to take the taxi home...he puts in about 14 hrs a day and gets dispatched via satellite on a small computer...my other buddy who used to drive for werner is alson leasing a taxicab from yellow cab co.

Ever heard the adage, "the grass is always greener on the other side"? Perhaps that was part of their reasoning. Or maybe they're just tired of driving a truck. I haven't noticed any particular phenomenon of this occurring, although I've known truck drivers who would buy a 1 ton cargo van and lease on with Panther II, FedEx CC, etc. So I suppose it's not that much different... just a course they felt more comfortable taking.

I broke from trucking briefly in '79 and drove a cab, leased it daily for $35 for one shift. Made good $$$$. But I gotta tell you, those bar flys at closing time get on your nerves.

Before I moved from NC, I'd taken on a part-time job with a designated driver service called Safe Ride Home. It was.... different. Let me just leave it at that.

I pushed a hack around Denver part time in the sixties. Yellow cab did the daily lease bit then. It got to the point where they had so many cars on the street that you really couldn't make much money there. That is when I bailed out of it. Man those Checkers were big old boats. . .

The day I quit was when a female customer showed me a gun in her handbag.
