If you can't, it's because of company policy.

NYC...must have been a while ago. They don't like handguns in that city anymore.

As far as robbing truckers, or anybody else, for that matter...if they didn't have their heads clouded with drugs or whatever else they have going on, they wouldn't be holding anybody up. These robbers don't care who they point a gun at. There are people in this world who are simply bad people. Evil exists. This is an example.

It's been said a thousand times, "Better to be judged by 12, than carried by 6"

The driver could possibly have been smarter, as well.

Driver has a cell phone, no doubt, and 911 works just as well in a truck.

Also has a QC to send messages.

Also has a 'locked' truck when someone approaches, since there is no need for motorist assistance these days and anyone stopping should be viewed with suspicion.

The only reason to be out of the truck would be to place the triangles.
And if someone pulled to stop while I was placing them, if it wasn't the law, I would head straight back to the cab and call the law - just to be safe.

Granted, it might not have been avoidable. But certain details were left out of the OP's account of events, so it's hard to tell.

Illegal? No, but check this site to see which states honor your permit
    http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/USReciprocity.pdf

Now, what is your company policy though?

Me too I don't want to be carried by six but I don't want to get stopped on the side of the road and have an officer find a gun and go away for that either.
