I'm a Transport Driver out of Cheverly, MD (Washington, DC). Been here since Sept after 30 plus years on the road pulling a flatbed. I run from DC north to Kearny, NJ and west to Johnstown, PA. I work nights (8pm start time) 5 nights a week, Mon - Fri.
The people here are friendly, we have a great driver supervisor and decent trucks (about as decent as a Pro Star can get, lol). Easiest job I've ever had, all drop and hooks.
If you can ever hook up in Transport...go for it.

I read where you drove those little side load trailers doing deliveries. A great way to start out driving a tractor trailer with all of the backing and city driving. A lot of physical work though and at my age....
Good luck in your new adventure.

I am looking at driving for Pepsi. Now working for a smaller grocery company and need to do too much merchandising and crap... wondering if it is the same with Pepsi. What are the routes like? How many stops? How many miles? I know it varies but tell me about your experience. Thanks for your help

I worked for Pepsi for 4 years. What I miss most was the camaraderie I had with my fellow drivers. My facility (18-22 drivers avg.) was a branch off of our bigger plant, which was located about 20 miles north. My plant only covered a small area (11 mile radius) due to other Pepsi plants located 20 miles north & south of our plant. The avg. day consisted of anywhere from 15-22 stops/day & 400-600 cases/truck. The pay was VROT (Variable Rate Over-Time), which means bust your butt to get the route done in as little time as possible. There was a base weekly pay & commission on every case sold. Over-time kicked in after 8/40 hours but usually only averaged out to be around $8-10/hr. It was definitely one of the majors contributors to me finding other employment.
