Do you realize this ISN'T ABOUT YOU!!! You've highjacked this thread and turned it into another therapy session. All points that have been made, that seem to upset you, are for the benefit of the OP and have nothing to do with you. They are however all true.

You may not have had the opportunity to take the path we are suggesting, but given your sensitive reaction to what has been suggested, it sounds like you would have liked to. If that's the case then you should support the advice that has been given instead of challenging it. If not, you should put on your big boy pants and give your opinion without making it about you!

I was responding to your "go the independent route and don't be a sheep" tirade. You DID suggest that those that go through company sponsored CDL training are minimal accomplishers, don't know anything, and don't question anything. Those are quoted words from your post. Apparently, you don't even have the intelligence to "decipher your code". Go back and read it, NANCY. I'm just pointing out that there are those of us tired of hearing that. I may be company sponsored but I guarantee that I'm twice as smart and more than a steering wheel holder like others.

No one yanked your chain. I stated that the community college option or technical school option are a good route to take if available to you. That was advice for the OP. I'm not hijacking anything. I think if you read my first post it states that I took the company sponsored training because that WAS my only option. I simply responded to a blowhard that wants to bash people that try to get into the industry however they can by calling them slackers. I have a right to respond as such. This is after all a public forum not JTHub and Chompi's forum. Let me finish by saying to the OP. If you can get a loan or pay for schooling then that is the best route to take. You will start off making more money that way and you will be able to walk away from the company without the threat of a lawsuit. You can get your cdl and hire on with a good company making good money. there are those that will say you can't but you can. If you have no other options available to you then you should consider company sponsored training as an option. you will owe them a year and then can move on. Good luck.

As you said, this is a public forum and I too had a right to respond as such...right or wrong!

I understand that everyone has to find their own path and that path might not be their first choice. It might be their only choice. It sounds as though that was the case with you, and I applaud you for taking that path with the knowledge of what you were getting into and the attitude to get you through it.

I do apologize for my last post regarding you. I felt you took the advise I was giving to the OP and took offense to it. I was trying to be very careful in what I said after reading your response to Chompi's post. I wanted to make sure I was offering advise from my perspective without stepping on your toes. When you responded it ticked me off and I responded. My response was wrong and I hope you and the OP can accept my apology!

I apologize if it seemed as if I was hijacking. I didn't mean to. I also apologize for the attitude in my response. I hope to see you on the road someday.

There is much more to worry about than just getting the CDL . The person needs to be hired before the shelf life of the CDL runs out and they have to put out more money for a refresher course .As was already mentioned very few people meet the year obligation of company sponsored training . Many get terminated for petty violation the not only get billed several thousand dollars by the carrier but get a negative DAC which ends their career.

Complete your year obligation then come back and tell us how smart you are . I really don't consider trying to be obligated to a BFI for a year very smart . It's one sided . You are obligated to them . They have no obligation to you . Give them half an excuse and you're gone.

I don't ever recall saying that's the smartest or best route. I said it's best as a last resort but it is an option and not everyone that does it is stupid. I'll try my best to finish my year and then move on if I'm not happy. It's not an I told you so scenario. I know what the next year holds for me. It was the only choice for ME.

and I hate to break it to you but any employer can fire you for any reason at anytime. You're not going to find too many companies in any field of work that feel an obligation to you the employee.
