I used to dispatch at a place that hired a sex offender. He raped his nephew. Got out of prison and raped his neighbor's son. Both times that POS got hired and rehired. I hated him and I ultimately left the company because I couldn't stand looking at the guy. Any company that employs predators can get bent.

Insurance companies have a great influence on who gets hired. A sex offender is public knowledge, and many companies don't want the negative exposure. You would be ahead of the game if you found a company who agreed to hire you with the knowledge of you record first and then get your CDL. Otherwise, you will have spent time and money with no return.

True. Most do reoffend. Then there are those who committed the crime at such a young age 19 for example. But they didn't get convicted until they were like 22 or 23. Most companies go off the conviction date and/or release date. But the offense didn't occur until almost three years before the conviction date. There lies the problem for most. You can't argue how old you were when it happened and the circumstances surrounding it.

People take one look at your record and depending on the charge, they turn their back on you so quick. No one is willing to give anyone a chance anymore because there have been people who took advantage of it in a bad way and that sucks for everyone else.

When you fill out job applications, carefully answer the questions and don't add information that isn't asked for.
"Have you been convicted of a felony within the last 3 years?"
"Have you been convicted of a felony within the last 5 years?"
"Have you been convicted of a felony within the last 7 years?"
Don't say, "No", but I was 10 years ago.

I agree with you but that doesn't change the way things are. The reality of the situation is that very few people will hire you. You made a bad decision and now you'll see the results of it for many years, This is as it should be.
You'll find a job somewhere but it probably won't be for a top notch company. Most good companies have a stack of applications from well qualified and experienced drivers with a clean record. They don't need to hire somebody with red flags all over him.
There is no driver shortage and I doubt if there ever was or ever will be.
I can't tell you what to do but you might look for another line of work, apprentice programs in the trades, that sort of thing.

My state is lifetime registry and they will arrest, if one fails to keep records updated.

My employer has several felon drivers. However, they won’t consider anyone who has anything related to a sexual conviction.

I wish those questions was that specific. Lol. Unfortunately they ask have you ever been convicted of a crime? Have you ever been convicted of a felony? They don't ask within so many years. Wish they do though.
