I have little sympathy for whiners like this.
If your house was built BEFORE the highway, then you can complain.
But if you deliberately decide to move into a new house that was just built next to an interstate highway, knowing full well that the highway was there, then I say to you "Sorry for your luck" when you decide to complain about truck noise.
Why should my tax dollars have to go to build a sound wall because of other peoples' poor relocating decisions?

When i was in the army and was an Air Traffic Controller the FAA used this Term called Noise Abatement Runway.... IT WAS INSANE after i found out what it was.......FT. Rucker has been around since the 1940's maby earlier i cant remember but its always been the home of the warrant Officer Pilot Program where they goto school to learn to fly the different types of helicopters... any we learned about 1 guy in particular in the late 90's he owned some land off the end of a runway from an airport out there and decided to build a house, but out of all the property he had he built the house like 2 football fields off the Runway of the airport then Whined and Cried about the noise then the FAA stepped in and told the army we couldn't use that runway any more and had to build a Completely new one for MILLIONS! not only that even our Nap of the Earth routs for pilots are Riddled with Noise abatement rules some places they have to fly 500' above the ground when there suppose to be 10-20 its retarded
Then on Top of that after Congress cut the Commanchie Program which was FT. Rucker's baby the post went on the chopping block and we the soldiers had to go to repeated presentations from the local mayors we are bordered by 5 small towns, and their mayors were there like every week CRYING about how if we leave its going to completely destroy the towns because they rely on the post to support their economy...
MORONS did it to them selves and now crying about shooting themselves in the foot, if they didn't whine and cry to the point where pilots can get almost no training to the point where its pointless to have the post there they wouldn't be in this situation, everything is moving to FT. Waxahatchie or how ever you spell it in AZ
lol its a little off topic but i think it is somewhat simlar situation as far as the final out come is
eventually NIMBY and all the restrictions on jake brakes are going to get enough people hurt and killed to where everyone whines and cries about why trucks aren't using all the safety features we have available to stop our trucks its just going to take a while -
I have a "dumb blonde" question for you..
If I am not supposed to use my jakes to slow down that 80,000 lb load, then I have to travel slower...
If I travel slower, you complain about the noise when you are standing on the sidewalk....
How do those of us traveling thru your town make you and your like minded friends happy?

I've never run a open stacked truck, but if I see a sign that says "No Jake Brakes" I'll pop my engine brake, reason one, I don't run a "Jake Brake" I run a engine brake, and two, Jake Brake is trademarked name from Jacob's engine brake. There is a sign in Seattle WA area going eastbound "No Compression Braking" I'm sorry, you want me to floor it going down this hill? Because if I lift off the hammer, that's compression braking!
Complaining about truck and or car noise while living next to a road is pretty sad, do you think I'm going to head to the city council and tell them to make sure the cows next door are quiet because they moo?
If I'm driving through a town at night (NE comes to mind) and I see the no engine brake sign, guess what, I'm not going to hit the ole engine brake. I don't want to wake people up, but come on, you, not me, built your house close to a major road.
Funny story, back when I was training, my trainer did not want me to hit the service brake and would make me use the engine brake all the time because she didn't want to pay for new brake shoes.
