What's redlining
-
Systematic denial of financial services to people living in majority-minority neighborhoods regardless of creditworthiness: Redlining - Wikipedia

So that stopped them from mowing their lawns or painting their house, etc? I call BS. Just because you are lower income, doesn't mean you have to be trash. That is a choice.drvrtech77 Thanks this.

Being on the receiving end of decades of redlining is not a choice. The houses in question are usually too close together to have much if any lawn, and why bother painting it if it's lost structural integrity?
Your denial of reality is apparent, and your motivations are suspect.buddyd157 Thanks this. -
How so. I grew up very poor on Chicago's south side. My greatgrandma raised me. Also lived in the projects for awhile. So I'm pretty well aware. I've known more than a few poor folks in my day that took pride in ownership while others around them let what they had go. Alot has to do with priorities. I've met alot of folks over the years that had alot of excuses about why they couldn't do things. If someone wants something bad enough, they find away.
Being poor is part of the journey, remaining poor is a choice.Gatordude Thanks this. -
Nevertheless, redlining is still an actual thing which is not a choice. Please explain how people can "find a way" to get a home improvement loan which banks won't give, even though those banks will happily give that loan to the white guy with worse credit who lives on the other side of the tracks.buddyd157 Thanks this.

Since when does one need a loan to mow your lawn? Or touch up paint? You don't need a loan if you keep up on things. The difference between you and I is, i speak from experience. While you just regurgitate talking points about something you know nothing of. It comes down to culture. Being poor is a culture, whether white or black or otherwise. We all see it all the time. A $60k caddy parked out in front of some dump of a house. Or a $60k brodozer parked in front of a falling down singlewide. Their priorities are messed up. It's a culture, you gotta look good while out and about. Or a satellite dish, $1k cell phone, $200 shoes, etc. In the black community education and speech are looked down upon. If you goto college and speak non-ebonics English, you are trying to be white. If you try and leave the ghetto and make something of yourself, you are a scared sellout or uncle Tom. "Poor" people are like crabs in a bucket. When one tries to escape, the others drag it back in. You want to address the root cause and point a finger of blame. Point it at them. I grew up with a buddy whos folks were on welfare And mentally unstable to say the least. Lived in a dump house and his sister was quite literally a #####. He was like me though, he saw the world around him and new there was a better way and didn't want to end up like that. So he joined the navy at 18. He is a lifer, been there over 20 years now and is doing very well for himself. Why? Because he made a choice to be better than his surroundings and its not a hard thing to do.

Nevertheless, redlining is (or at least was) real, and it has real effects. The neighborhoods to which it was done are known, and the conditions of those neighborhoods before and after it was done are also known, and the results are always the same. There's no denying it. Not even the people who did it are denying it, so your denial of it rings extra-specially hollow.Last edited: Jul 11, 2021

Show me where I denied it?
We are all the products of the choices we make. If you choose to stay in the ghetto, then that's on you. If you choose to stay poor, then that's on you. All types of folks are held back in life. I was one of them, but I chose to get out and so can they.
