ok I'm looking for opinions on best truck, or trucks, and if there are certain yrs that are better or should stay away from.

(and yes, I know a tractor is MUCH better suited for the job, but I'm out in California, and well, as a start up, buying a 2008 or newer isnt an option)

So please Vote, and if you can state why, why not, and yr range of vehicle

    Thanks for your time

New right now get a ram. In a few months the F450 will be king again. Used a Ford with a 7.3.

Move out of CA, buy a used single axle for $15K and make money.

Then again, living 1 hr from the beach, desert, mountains, lakes, and snow, and newer 3,000 sq home in private. Community.... I'll take that over any place in between here and the other coast, rest a country may look pretty....I'll keep my amenities

I like the 5500 dodge for that setup but it will cost you more for the dodge than a single axle tractor.

BTW can you also keep the people down there from moving up here?

shoot, we don't want them either. Lol.

im really torn, I would have to go used, but here are my thoughts. I've seen some good prices on used 3500's. Low mileage, and possibly not really "worked".... But not the best for the job

seen some used 5500 comparatively priced to the 3500, better suited for the job ( not best),'...... But about 100% chance that it has been used for work, and who knows how much and how hard

The 5500 will work better. The only reason I said 3500 was so I can use it like a normal pick up when it's not working or park it infront of my house. But the 5500 or 450/550 will be better suited. Buying used is this. You don't who owned it, why they got rid of it, how was it maintained, and what was it used for. You put the first mile on and are the first person to tow with it. If you go used try buying from the owner, and stay clear of it if that person used it to haul cars.

5500s series trucks are geared to high, if you need anything bigger then a 4500 then get a single axle.
