This comes up fairly often and never happens. He will need to go to a school.

ther are SOME(read not many) schools/comm college that you can rent truck from them.
-
thank you damutt for the information i'll check with the local comm college as well
i understand most truckers do not want to rent there truck to a stranger it's hard to trust anyone these days.. and he has looked into trucking schools the cheapest one i cant remember what he said it was called wanted $3500 down in advance and the man he spoke to said it only has a 10% success rate on people actually passing the course it's hard to think of losing all that money for a school we are newly weds and i'm sure you know it's hard when you first start building you life I Will take any and all advice given to me -
They only have a 10% success rate and want $3500 down? Sounds like your husband found the worst CDL instructors in North America.

Virginia recently decided to rewrite the CDL evaluation process and put it in place 1 July 2015. It seems certain offices didn't get the memo and are in "make it up as you go mode."
Just as an FYI
The Woodbridge DMV has an 80% or above failure rate for first time test takers. Of 32 persons only 1 passed.
The evaluators seem to have widely varying opinions of what constitutes line encroachment (1' or 3' or some other unspecified amount)
On evaluator will state a Class A vehicle without hazmat is required to use the 4 way flashers 200' before a rail crossing (this is only applicable to passenger busses per CDL manual)
Another evaluator believes Z-spring is an incorrect term when discussing suspension components on the PTI.
I would like to know how an evaluator believes an axle grease seal "oil level" can be checked and filled when low...
IMO the Woodbridge DMV is hit or miss - with more miss than hit. The lot is at a very weird angle and because of this a blind side parallel parking task can be very difficult because you will roll forward if not quick on the clutch and several evaluators will call any forward movement a pull up with no exception.
They will not tell you that you must pull completely through the cones either, unless you ask for specific pronouncement of the completion point - and what constitutes a successful straight-back followed by pull up.
