I have heard about the gps for truck drivers, and was wondering if anyone has one and if it works good or not and where i can get one from. I do know how to read a map but it can be time cosuming sometimes. Id rather not use my own car gps and make a mistake going on a parkway with low bridges (happens all the time where i am).

It works fine, but you have to be smarter than the GPS!

I use GPS to follow a route that I have already planned with an atlas. I wouldn't trust one of those things to plan a route without at least checking it out for myself.

I use the Garmin Nuvi, btw, with the western Canada LSD add-on. (Most of my delivery sites are off-road, with no postal address.)

One thing I have found very useful is when the GPS cannot find a road, because there isn't one, it will show you how close you are to your destination, and in which direction you are heading. You can then make an informed decision as to which goat-trail to follow.

Its very helpful to see the cross roads coming up on the screen, I would get a large display. This is priceless at night, in high traffic areas. Make sure you can alter the route on the GPS, so you can trip plan with your Atlas and then update the route to your liking. I have Rand Mac 700 and love it......I have had about 4 or 5 since I started.

I have one. The PC Miler Navigator 430. Got it not long after they came out. I like it. It so far has been spot on with Hazmat and oversized routing. Regular routing works pretty well.

It is a good tool to have with you. Just as an atlas and some mechanical tools in a toolbox. That is all it is though. A tool. Bottom line is YOU have to make the final decision.

It works well for me long haul hopping from one TS to another. I can get my ETA as well as plan my preferred fuel stops.

The garmin 465t has been great, but as with any gps common sense and keep your eye wide is the best policy, and make sure you have it set up right and keep maps updated....

I hacked my garmin nuvi 205w to become a 465t:biggrin_25520:
From what I gather and many website's and forum's this is usually the best gps out for truck's. Mind you I havent been behind a truck for 2 years I wouldn't know. But as driving in my car It has been the best gps I ever owned. From my understanding garmin has another one called the 560lt for truckers look's promising.
