Hey everyone, I have a 2006 Freightliner Columbia with Detroit Series 60. I've had it parked in a yard for exactly 3 years, was very occupied with my straight truck business but now it is time for me to get back on the road. I started it up every week or two and took it for a spin around the yard (yard has 100 trucks so its pretty big). My question is what are the first things I should repair/replace before hitting the road again? I've already got 8 brand new tires for it and I'm going to replace all the brake shoes and drums. What are the most common things to go bad from a truck being parked for 3 years? Thanks in advance!

Hoses, flush the system as well.

As Joseph noted hoses and a good flush change rad cap , change the belts as well and keep an eye on the wheel seals for leaks when you get a few hundred miles of on the road use as well as check engine , trans , rear ends , power steering check for oil leaks , watch the auto drain if equipped on your air tanks for sticking after sitting and not used as well.

Thanks Flatbed, you guys are a bit more knowledgeable on this stuff than I am. I just throw it out there and hope it sticks! Lol

Wouldn't hurt to have a shiny new passed inspection Sticker on it as well.

As long as you were consistent about taking it for a spin every two weeks you should be fine. But if two weeks was really four to six, you need to pay extra attention to the problem areas listed above. I'd also add in thermostats. You do not want to risk one sticking shut or open on you.

Probably do a full PM, filters & fluids, belts and hoses etc. I reckon you are in good shape because you started it and ran it around the yard. Stuff won't come to light until you put some shakeyfreighty miles on it. Carry a variety of hammers, duck tape, electrical tape. Good luck
