That's sad and embarrassing for all of us. That's why I don't tell necessarily my neighbors, what I do for a living.
I am a self loathing truck driver.

When they look down their nose at you, just rumble by in your hell kitty with the red key.

When I hear people crapping on truck drivers, I tell them to go home and try to find a single item that they have purchased in their entire life, or ever will purchase for the rest of their life, that didn't spend some time on a truck before they bought it. That includes all of the building materials used to build their house, and their cars. Yes there are some real scumbags in this business, but the vast majority of us are decent people just trying to make a living like the rest of the world.
Speaking of making a living, the port of Los Angeles laid off 145 drivers today. They usually get in 1,000 containers per night, and lately they're lucky to get 200. Expect to see a lot more of this.

I still think now is a golden opportunity for us to declare our independence, and become a free and sovereign nation.

A cousin of mine makes over 85k at Estes and lives in a nice neighborhood. That’s high earnings around here. Anyway, his neighbors always think he’s joking when he says he’s a truck driver and then quit waving to him as he drives his nice mustang down the road. It’s sad there is a stigma instead of a respect like when I was a kid. Dirty trashy drivers don’t help though.alds, PPLC, TallJoe and 1 other person Thank this.

"Without trucks America stops" is sheer megalomania. Bricklayers around the country could see themselves as indispensable too. I've spent most of my professional life driving a truck and I will not be convinced that this occupation deserves some elevated honorable status, if compared to other professions.
As matter of fact, I see it as a low end profession requiring minimal education and just average cognitive skills. Perhaps it used to be different, when a driver had to know about diesel engine and general mechanics, capable to fix things. Not any more.
BTW. In my youth, I worked at construction sites and never did I see bricklayers, carpenters, plumbers, dry wall installers leave so much filth after themselves as I see truck drivers do nowadays.dunchues, spyder7723, Coffey and 5 others Thank this. -
Has anyone noticed if the Coronavirus is resulting in fewer loads? Or the opposite?
