In "the best man wins" scenario, the customer fires over an email telling me what they're looking for. I find a carrier, discuss a rate and explain, "Still gotta lock it in with the customer. Hang tight for a few, I'll call them and see where we're at. I'll call you back, either way."

So: customer sends request -> I go find a carrier and settle on a rate -> I call customer and tell them what I have. If I win the bid, I put the carrier on the load.

There's some priceless info floating around on this thread in the last few days.

Kinda goes back to what they always told me in school, which I didn't want to hear then:

    He who reads succeeds.

No truck payments, trailers 640 a month and insurance 800 a month. Don't need a whole lot but my goal is 4000 per truck. The last few weeks only been 3-4 days a week, taking care of a few things on the trucks. Back to hitting it hard again.

If we had high overhead, new truck and trailer payment our operation would be much different. Wouldn't be home every night I know that much LOL

I'll use this as an example. Before the covid and before our new agent at global got greedy and slashed the rate. 340 miles for the day 700$ 3500 wk if we didn't grab a load back. I get 37% so 1295 and ~700 for fuel (lower than that most times) so that leaves 1500ish w/o taking maintenance etc into the equation.

Gonna set up a partnership with my dad. Need to find a good CPA that specializes in trucking. By this time next year i plan having a truck and putting a driver in it

Swift wouldn't budge at all but their rate was best posted rate of the week. 2 loads 1216 on 347mi 4,600LB. 6 months ago that lane was 200+ less. Sometimes I'll get lucky and get extra 20-25% but most times it's 10-15% they go up

Truck Driver Arrested For Refusing to Wear a Mask in Oregon

This type of stuff really concerns me. I don’t wear a mask and am not going to at any time for anyone, period. Now a certain side in DC is saying it needs to be mandatory across the country.

Our rights like religion, right to bear arms, and freedom of speech are dangerously being impeded on. How many thousands or millions of us are going to say no, not doing it!

Sorry Scooter to put this in your thread but it’s a good group here and I’m curious what other people think. Also, what’s your view living in Oregon?

I think the illegal's should be required to wear them.

Well, my view living in Oregon is this. We have no mandatory mask requirements here in my county.

I've only gone to one shipper that required a mask so far, that was in California. They gave me a paper mask before I entered the facility.

I had a choice to make. Since it was their warehouse, with their rules, I had one of two options. Since I had agreed to haul the load for the broker, I figured the honorable thing to do was to wear the mask.

When I went inside the receiver office, the man in charge wasn't wearing a mask, so I took mine off.

They asked me to count the pallets while the forklift driver put them in my trailer. I just lifted the mask up above my top lip and breathed well ;-)

I think the way that CDL Life titled that article is interesting. It did make me click on the bait though LOL
