In his county it wasn't mandatory either. The court house decided themselves it was mandatory and he ended up going to jail over it. That's nuts.
Here where I live it'll never be mandatory on a local level. However, if they were to do that on a federal level. I would probably go to jail over it.
Lastly, I already had to do a doctor visit over the face time call. Doc office said put this mask on and I told them I wasn't doing it. lol

I’m firmly in the no mask camp. If people wish to stay 10 feet away from me that’s fine.

@TallJoe one more thing, every time you book a load, imagine that you have to pay $350 per day to the driver and $150 for a new truck payment. That will make you fight every day to get that $1000+ daily gross and change your mental perspective on how to book the loads. This way you can see, that your last year's $60k net would be putting your fleet out of business (if you were running one)

I always aim for the highest bids I think I can get. I do prefer bid and click, or book from megas over smaller brokerages because it is a lesser worry. I also avoid North East and Western PA and Carolinas for the same reason - don't fancy going there. So I pay the price for the comfort and perhaps that's way these higher rates are not quite attainable for me. Most of my loads come from Convoy, UBER, JB Hunt - the three, and sporadically I use XPO, Schneider, TQL. I don't want additional trucks and drivers to deal with either so I make it easy for myself with that gross per day. Quite honestly, I am disappointed with my state of affairs on the spot market because I was hoping for these rates to be generally more solid all the time even without haggling and all those foxy subgames. Also, I really hoped for some stability and repetitiveness of service from the same pool of brokers (I tried smaller brokers earlier) but either they don't show much interests or I lose patience.
Will I change anything? Maybe if I bought a brand new truck and traded in my van for a reefer I'd have to step up a game onto more serious level but I don't feel like taking more stress on my shoulders. So I am hoping that I can get netto of more than 60. Perhaps 80 - 90 buy running more but worrying less. If it does not work, I'll think of a change.
So if I am finelly tired and done with it I'll send applications to @Dave_in_AZ or @Midwest Trucker I am sure they will hire me for all the thank yous I gave them here. Or I'll knock on the @clausland door and ask if I can work for food, if he still needs to drive down those fence poles.Last edited: Jun 28, 2020

Went to get a hose fitting at the farm supply the end of May, heifer Hilda met me at the door, "You need a mask". No I don't, I replied. "Well you can't come in then", she says. No problem, I replied, I'll spend my money elsewhere and simply left.
In a sense, I feel bad for the stores & warehouses as they're being told by the government that they need to enforce this face mask farce or face being shut down & fined, so that makes them the heavy. Now, if every business told the G to stick it, would they all be shut down, I doubt it. If everyone refused to participate in this government overreach, would we all be jailed, I doubt it.... -
Your always welcome here old buddy. I'll send you my address if you want. Fence posts are done for the season, but I'll be cutting hay, probably in a week or two at the most, depends on the weather. With farming, it seems everything depends on the weather.
Like many, I know you're going through tough times right now. Hang in there man, don't give up....Dave_in_AZ, Midwest Trucker, TallJoe and 1 other person Thank this. -

Well. Today is hot both weather wise as well as rate wise, even for the click and go freight. I just clicked and went to Connecticut- not exactly my comfort zone - but $ 3600 on 1060 miles is enough to alure me there. The load has two drops involved which will take the whole day to get empty but the load weighs less than 7000 lbs only and the detention will be secured.
Maybe it is only because of the 4th of July period or maybe in addition to that, it is the reaction of the economy being woken up from hibernation.
People were not left without income this entire Spring and their propensity to spend remains on a relatively high level. Certain stores still look low on their merchandise. Let's hope that recent surge of money supply will not cause too high inflation.Dave_in_AZ, Dino soar, Dale thompson and 9 others Thank this. -
Be prepared for 84 if you run that way. It's even rougher in CT and NY than PA is. Terrible. One of the crappiest roads I've been on. I'll be up near Auburn Mass in the am.
Nothing but cheap stuff coming back out id say you did REAL good coming inTallJoe, Dale thompson and clausland Thank this. -
The only freight paying half way decent coming back out is all the way up to Hollis Center Maine. Water usually 2.00-2.20 on a good day
Been around 6 months since i was up that far north
Edit: out of the mega brokers TQL I don't have any qualms with other than when we first pulled for them they cancelled 2x. Their rates are above avg. Us Express and swift. Have yet to pull a jb or Schneider load. Last weekend TQL called us but we didn't have a truck for em. Last minute load im sure they would of paid out the ###Last edited: Jun 29, 2020
