How much for your DOT number?

I'm working on my first direct customer. If we can put it together, Landstar will be history.

Not much really. You must be ready to roll after your 34 but really what that means is being ok with leaving out Sunday afternoon after having gotten back home Friday evening. I generally only have guys leave 2 Sundays per month to avoid burn out anyway. If you have a doc appt or a requested day off then you run on mileage only pay that week. No guarantee.

Anything above 2800 miles pays out at .54 on top of the $1500. Must have haz and tanker endorsements even though its mostly van and some reefer. I’m cool with it taking 30 to 45 days if you don’t already have it. 2 yrs min experience but I tend to look for much more then that. Say 10+ yrs.

Gotta be someone who keeps the left door shut and is naturally motivated.

I also payout vacation weeks at the minimum and drivers get their first week at 6 months and 2 more at 1 yr.

Guess I’m just in a very competitive market. I never thought I’d be offering something like this to be honest.

Edit: Guess I am kinda picky but I’d rather trucks sit then put yayhoo’s in them.

Edit 2: I also only hire people from my state within an hour of the yard. That hurts me I’d say since trucking companies are on every corner here. :\ I may have to reconsider.

That is excellent in my book! How far out are you running to get that mileage and to make it home every night? Do you work with repeat shippers/receivers so know they can get you in and out, or what does a typical day look like for you out of curiosity?

For a good few months now, I adopted the Ostrich tactics of problem solving and I do not concern myself with the rate per mile, but rather prioritizing what is left after fuel per trip where a minimum monthly number must be secured regardless of miles driven - with obvious preference of them being minimal.
I must admit that your mention of Quick Books as an accounting system, in the other thread, prompted me into taking a closer look at it.
That resulted in my migrating from Excel / Access to it ( online version: Essentials).
The real life look at cash flow, income/cost with future incoming bill and expenses prognosis is invaluable.

However, for the IFTA reporting and effectiveness of running assessment- all the $/mile and gal/mile gauges - separate spreadsheets need to be maintained. From a software development perspective, it should not be too difficult for QB to add trucking business module.

Well, for the most part I try and stay within a couple of hundred miles, north south, of where I live. This time of the year being home every night day is more obtainable.

Yes, I do have working established relationships with certain brokers that have their relationships with certain shippers.

When I do have to spend a night out, it's usually no more than a couple a week, never back to back though.

No offense, but spending all week away from home in a truck, with a 34 hour reset at home, if you're lucky, sucks big time in my book.

    That's just me though...

I agree, without Quickbooks and all of its detailed reporting, it would be much harder to see what’s really going on for me. As for the IFTA, doesn’t your ELD handle a lot of that data for you?

To each their own, but I don't adhere to the ostrich technique ;-)

I have my own system I developed over time. It’s called the “Make as much F’ing revenue as I can possibly get while spending as little F’ing money as I can while cutting no F’ing corners approach.”

Works like a charm. Then just use Quickbooks to see how much F’ing money I’m making. ;)

It does but I still need to upload all the fuel transaction from a separate xl spreadsheet or record them each time I fuel in the app.
    Not a big deal though.

    Midwest Trucker Thanks this.
