Well, looks like I'll jump back onto the other wave on Monday.
Back to home every night and my wife's 6 course meals, of course.
At least all next week anyways...Midwest Trucker and PPLC Thank this. -
Ubered over to a nice hotel for the night yesterday after I unloaded. Figured I might as well use some of those AMEX rewards I've had banked on my account.
Ubered back over to my truck this morning. Real nice older dude, older than me. Told me he used to run his own truck until fuel prices jumped several years ago, so he got out.
He seemed concerned when he saw my Volvo truck, first thing he asked was "what kind of motor is in it?" My reply that it was a Volvo D13 didn't seem to sit well with him.
I mean after all, he ran a Detroit 60 series for years...
When he asked what kind of fuel mileage I get (7.25 lifetime) his response was, "well, I never got better than 5 mpg with my Detroit."
He commented, "certainly you must have had a lot of issues running that 'blue fluid stuff'?"
To which I replied, "no, none yet on 456,000 miles."
Hmmm. Well certainly, "those super singles you're running can't be a good thing, is it?"
"Well, I've never had any issues."
Like I said, he was a nice Uber Driver.Itsbrokeagain, Midwest Trucker, Accidental Trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
LOL, guess we know why he drives an Uber now.
Itsbrokeagain, TallJoe and Scooter Jones Thank this. -
Dino soar, stuckinthemud, Dale thompson and 1 other person Thank this.

I put the big cam Cummins in my 95 Freightliner and it has been the greatest thing ever.
I have no desire for anything else.
No computers. No wires. No sensors. No Multiplex wiring. No expensive injectors or variable turbochargers. No trips to the dealer.
Just fuel, air, and compression - the way that God meant it to be.
If and when they outlaw it, that will probably be it for me.
I don't see myself buying a used truck and spending 10 or $15,000 on an emission problem, or searching through a zillion wires and fuses and codes to try to figure out why my truck simply won't start. Or chasing crazy intermittent problems with my electrical tester.
And I don't see myself buying a brand new truck.
I think it will be time then to just move on to something else.D.Tibbitt, DUNE-T, Dale thompson and 3 others Thank this. -
Well, I'm not a mechanic and happen to live next door and transact business in a state that has the strictest emissions rules in the country, so there's that.
Dale thompson and Truckermania Thank this.
