He is probably looking for at least 30k over the next year period.
I would not hesitate buying an old truck with a 1-1.3 mil miles and restoring it to my liking, but buying a 2 mil truck with 1 mil after overhaul is a bad idea IMO. Even if he gets a new engine, that body is just getting way too tired.

Paper logs was his biggest motivation. It surprises me how scared some people are about ELDs still. Now, after the latest changes that's almost a non-issue. He was looking for it a long time. So it is not too easy to find a good 780 with N14, I guess. He said that there was actually some bidding involved with other buyers. The only thing that's in his favor is that the truck had only 1 owner and he had a good maintenance..Still over 20 years and at 2 million miles things must fall apart.

That's kind of like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Your example, and a few others on this forum shows that getting a factory new is a viable option. Apart from aggravations there's Fuel savings and comfort. I, for that matter, rely only on what they tell me at the shop. I might have an idea of what the problem is but parts and labor cost is not something I can control. I gotto pay either way.
The way I look at it is that I have 10 - 15 years of trucking in me and I simply think that I don't need those shops visits and hope for not getting ripped off too much. Well, I also think that I deserve a new nice one.

I sold my 2014 today for 36k. It was good timing as I had two new “freshies” show up today. Now let’s see if I can hire a couple drivers! Fingers crosssed.

Did you have to wait for the freshies?
