I don’t think the larger than anticipated failure is accurate.I’m thinking PPE kept more than a few small and midsize carriers around that were on deaths door.

I agree but it’s still a larger failure rate then if covid never existed. IMO. So, I mean larger then if a shut down never happened. Not larger then many thought a shut down would cause to go under.

    Do you agree with that?

Yes and no if the shutdowns never happened then the helicopter money would not have happened. Maybe I’m remembering March a little different but I remember most hoping for a good spring uptick. The big unforeseen events make looking back really just an exercise in guessing. Sorta like college football rankings.

If 2020 continued like 2019, we would see companies getting out from business, but rates wouldn't have been like they are now. They simply would have improved just a bit.
I also don't believe there would have been another boom in September, people simply didnt have money to spend, everyone was/is deeply in debt.

Trucking and the economy don’t always go hand in hand. Besides, unemployment was at historic lows, wage increases were the highest in decades. Home prices were going up. The economy was far from bad! It just would have taken until September IMO before the rates would have started sailing again. That’s based more on capacity availability then the economy. Not as high as rates are now, but more aligned with late 2017 and early 2018.

PPP, in my opinion, was not the biggest culprit in keeping companies floating. It was the EIDL money. Access to 85k to 150k for a small operator with limited proof of creditworthiness at 3.75% for 30 years from the gubmint, will end up being a major noose around ppl's necks in the years to come.

Man, it's dark, rainy and dreary outside in my neck of the woods. I'm so glad I saved, paid forward on business & personal obligations, etc.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful.
And since we've got no place to go,
Let It Rain! Let It Rain! Let It Rain!

    $1.28 a mile average.

It's a race back to the bottom.
