Truck Load Rates Halt 8 Week Slide 2.0

Absolutely. It’s a real problem. It’s such a fluid unprecedented situation that even with much due diligence things can still change. I’m starting to wonder if before it’s all over I’m going to have a warehouse full of crap where carriers need short term storage to free their trailer. We have about 8k sq ft.

 

Not with ease but it is happening. Some give you the “Why the F you think you can start gouging now that we need your truck so bad.” So I give them the “Why do you think you can run us for under cost when we need you so bad”? It just tells me they are hearing this a lot and are getting frustrated. I’m serious when I say I had to pay $5/mi on a couple loads today. So yes, it’s happening.

 

I'm telling folks, "Here's what I think it will be. I'm going to work on it, with that in mind- however, if that's not working, I will let you know what it's actually going for as I know it."

It seems to be working so far.

 

You gotta specify the miles on this $5 freight. Because I am afraid if I quote a broker tomorrow $5000 for a 1000 mile run, or $10000 for a 2000 mile run, he might get sick and go to an emergency room from too much laughing

 

Don’t be afraid. 700 mile radius. So up to $3500 is what I was working with/on today. I think you might be surprised, and obviously the more of us that do this, the better it gets for us all.

And honestly, this is not gouging. This is protecting your/our ###!

 

I was barely able to get out from Detroit for $2, to TN. I am not afraid of quoting high, just being realistic. I was anticipating getting $4 tomorrow for a load back to Midwest, but will try for $5

 

Id say you have a great chance at it if you wait to book. I have no idea how the next days will go but that is the way it was trending today on freight that needs to go.

 

Maybe there won't be a collapse of the general freight market after the stores replenish their shelves.
Households, like mine, never had stacked up pantries with food and groceries. Even if they do now, they will still maintain the emergency level, afraid of a similar situation in future.
What we have seen so far, was building up emergency supplies by those who did not have it.
