I found a load for Monday that's $5.38 per mile on 696 miles. Still decent here in the west.

Yes, absolutely China can create a recession here, but we can do the same to them. I have a bad feeling something ugly is coming in the way of shortages that we aren't going to be ready for. These little supply chain hiccups we're currently seeing are going to get a lot worse I'm afraid. Time for another run on toilet paper and many other things.

Actually, no we can’t. That requires leadership. But I agree, I hadn’t felt that way until this week but now I’m seeing some things. It’s early but just thought I’d see if anyone else was feeling that way. Sounds like you do Steve.

Yes, of course. Deliberately or not. The economical might is something that can be only attributed to the side that "has" (not nessecarly owns) the "means of production" ( a Marxist term BTW but very much applicable).
Capitalism is driven by a human greed and it works great until the greed is contained within geographical boundaries of the population living there.
P.S. As a young student I was told by a professor about 30 years ago "It is impossible to even think of economical strength of a state that has no production" while discussing the future of the World, Globalization, Information Society and so on.
It is true regardless of how the private property laws are structured. Whether in the hands of 1% the richest or 90% (or whatever) in the hands of the state like China. At the end of the day, only those will call the shots, who can make things.
As far as I am concerned, it is criminal to delegate any critical production lines out of the country.

Now, you have the sample of how vulnerable this system dependent on so called Globalization is. You can be down for weeks due to no ####ty bearings available.
The only way to globalize the economy is the Hitler's way. First conquer the World then subdue all the people living there to modern servitude, and then exploit , not only by means of money but also by means of power.
That's a mad proposition...is it not? So it was mad to think that when you transfer all the factories overseas, it would not end up like we fear it may end up.
You can't realistically think that people of such a country like this will live off the road transport.

I can't stand seeing so many little towns of American province to be in such a state of dilapidation. This looks like the 3rld World. It should not.
I'll stop the rhetoric for now. Maybe it is political...maybe not. Just pissed off to see it all at once, vaccinations, delta variants, Kabul tragedy, shortage of parts, no trucks, no trailer, now they lay off people when everybody needs to make parts and trucks?
    Too much for me!
    Bye for now!

Nah not political just venting. You're 1st generation American right? You know 1st hand how it was in another place besides here.

Im sure you've been through Binghamton many of times. My family on my mom's side is originally from Bing going back a few generations before my grandpa got in with IBM in Dayton N.Jersey. My parents moved up here in 86 just at the tail end of "the good days" when 17/81 still had traffic jams in the morning. Big blue and EJ Endicott Johnson built the place. My great great aunt (1912-2012) was the Binghamton town historian lived her whole life here and saw the decline 1st hand. Going from about 100k in the city proper to 40k now.

The 1st place my dad worked was central transport he leased on to. Doing the Oneonta/Norwich/Ithaca pedal. 95% of the places he delivered to are no longer around.

    Edit
Oh and Dick's sporting goods Lol, famous for that. The original Dicks is still open on Court St believe it or not. My mom used to work for corporate way way back when it was located in the industrial pk where Maine's is today, just down the road
