I believe that gold is a good way of investment diversification. It has been for ages and will be. People, for whatever reasons, appreciate gold and it is not going to change. Just like they appreciate and invest in the works of art.
I am sure it will be worth more than whatever it is worth now reflected in USD. But there is no law against owning it, is there? You were implying illegality from 90 years ago. I thought it was about golden currency only. Is the law still in place?Last edited: Oct 11, 2021

Good that you clarified this because I am afraid that the way you stated it in your earlier post (please go back and read it) made everyone to think that USD is connected to gold. That's why everyone was confused. Gold being a good investment or not is a different matter but that's not important now. I would not mind owning some, if had excess of cash. I don't think you could be wrong about owning gold (but you need to have it in your vault, no papers for it) and a piece of land.ProfessionalNoticer Thanks this. -
But, laws come, and laws go. During all those wild changes in our economic and tax laws, the average stock market return stayed remarkably constant, around 10 to 12%. That’s remarkable.dwells40 Thanks this. -
Interesting stuff. I’ve always invested every penny I have back into the business but I do see a day coming where I need to make investments else where. I’m really torn between returns, safety of the money not going poof(government), and being safe from sue happy people.
I understand the stock market talk, Steve and Accidental make it sound more appealing then I’ve ever thought before. The gold sounds like a great idea but theft/loss/safety/ease of use is a real concern. It seems like land may be the smart play along with a fairamount of stocks and such. You can’t steal land, they aren’t making any more of it, it appreciates, and for example farm ground also sees returns.
Has anyone saw Biden’s new pick? This lady makes me extremely nervous. In the way of the government controlling your money and being able to take it from you so easily. You know, if you don’t fall in line, or are a deplorable non vaxer as an example. Add with the $600 reporting law they want, very dangerous and turns me off to stocks or feeling secure with how many zeros show when I log into my bank account.
All thoughts welcome please. Sounds like no matter what I need guns, ammo, food, smokes, and booze. LOL All bases covered that way.

I don't like being a doomsday theorist, but most people don't have a clue just how fragile society really is. We think in terms of our life span and feel like nothing could ever change that much. But as we're seeing now with the supply chain and empty shelves, it can get worse. I'm 61 years old, and can't think of a single time in my life when there were empty shelves other than hoarding before a hurricane or something like that. Nothing on the scale we're seeing now. What's happening in Australia is really concerning, and that's exactly what our current government would like to be doing here. Never thought I would see it in my lifetime, but here we are. My parents and grandparents lived through the great depression, and instilled in me to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.Brettj3876, kemosabi49, Ruthless and 8 others Thank this. -
